Good Samaritan Relief at the Old Hospital
published by Pat Hase - 8 years 8 months 8 days ago.

Inital inquiries have established that the Good Samaritan was already very worn before it was taken down from the Alfred Street part of the original hospital when the building was re-developed into housing.  Rumour has it that it was damaged beyond repair and could not be re-sited - will need to check on this - Can anyone add to this answer?   I seem to remember it at the entrance to what was then the Accident and Emergency Dept - can anyone confirm?   Does anyone have a photo of that part of the Hospital before it was converted?

The Cuff family
published by - 8 years 8 months 11 days ago.

Hi,  a William Cuff was my 3x great-grandfather. I believe he was baptised in Banwell in 1800 and was buried there in 1868. He married an Elizabeth ? in 1819 at Chard, she was also buried in Banwell in 1873. Their daughter, Elizabeth, baptised 1831 [Winscombe or Sandford] married my 2x GG John Lancaster in 1851 at Banwell.John was a journey-man butcher.and both he and Elizabeth were Buried in Banwell in 1892 and 1890 respectively.

They had 8 children, Thomas baptised 1860 at Banwell was my GG. He married Elizabeth Denham in 1880 at Bedminster, Bristol.and their son Thomas was my grandfather. Thomas and his two brothers fought in the 2nd World War.

Hope you enjoy your visit to Banwell. The last of my aunties died there recently, two weeks befor her 100th birthday.

I hope to hear from you.    Jane from Nottingham
