CommentsJohn HARDIDGE, HARDWITCH etc published by Pat Hase - 7 years 8 months 26 days ago. | | If your Henry HARDIGE was christened in Compton Bishop in 1792, s/o James & Ann then I'm sure that there is a family connection. Go through the baptisms in Compton Bishop on our site for all the variations of the name (and there are a lot!) to sort them out. I'm sure that one of our members, Margaret Jordan, would be able to help you. You can email her here. Margaret has extensive knowledge of Compton Bishop and is always willing to help.

John Hardige. published by Alan Avery - 7 years 8 months 27 days ago. | | My 4xGF Henry Hardige, born in Compton Bishop circa 1793, and Elizabeth had at least three children. The eldest was Amery, my 3xGF, born 1827 in Cheddar. The second was a John. Could this be your ancestor? If so any additional information would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Alan

CRANE Family - Wraxall and Backwell published by Pat Hase - 7 years 8 months 28 days ago. | | There was a marriage of a William CRANE to a Louisa STOKES which took place at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol in the 11th August 1839 - see familysearch. But, William gives his father's name as John CRANE (not Joseph) according to the transcription but you could get a copy of the certificate to confirm the father's name and to see the witnesses. Louisa's father is given as William STOKES.
There are christenings of several children to William & Louisa in Wraxall in our transcriptions and by using the GRO index you can see which CRANE children have STOKES as the mother's maiden name. Louisa (or Louiza) was born in 1845 and is the only one where the father's second name is given (when she was christened at Backwell) I believe that the 4-day-old William CRANE who was buried at Backwell in 1840 may have been another son.
On the 1851 census the William STOKES living with them is possibly Louisa's father and I believe her mother was probably Rachel VAGG and that they were married at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol in 1810.
I have STOKES from Wraxall in my own family but cannot see a link with yours yet.

His father was Edmund William PIKE, a Sadler. There is a copy of a birth certificate attached to a Family Tree on Ancestry showing the birth of James Alexander (sic) PIKE on 30 April 1847 in Ilchester. Pike Family published by Eddie Prest - 7 years 9 months 9 days ago. | | I have just started to develop a family tree. My grandfather was George Richard Charles Pike born in wsm in 1892. My great grandfather was Alexander James Pike, born in 1847/8, died in 1900. Alexander and family lived in Rose Lawn (now the Citizens Advice Bureau), having purchased it from Hans Price. My grandfather's brother William E Pike lived in wsm all his life, lastly in Bleadon. His wife was Edith, my grandfather's wife was Lillian. Alexander was married twice, first to Mary Ann Flower in 1869, then to Sarah Maria Ann Dance in 1890. There were ten children, five from each marriage. Can anyone expand this thread at all please? | |
