Isgar/Esgar published by on Wed, 02/08/2017 - 21:47
I am looking for information re: My ancestors who lived in the E. Brent area of Somerset. The farm was called " Whitehouse" The time frame was about 1650 through 1900. The original surname was Isgar and changed to Esgar. Also around Axbridge, Lympsham , Somerset., with the name of Hicks from the 1700s. Thanks.
Wow, it's not often that this happens! I believe that Robert ISGAR/ESGAR who was born in 1718 at Whitehouse, East Brent was my husband's 5 x great grandfather. Which line are you researching?
Pat I replied to your comment a few weeks ago. I don't think I sent my message properly as their was no response. Don't know how to reply. So am sending my e-mail address. kesgar@yahoo.com. Please let me know if any thing is reaching you. Robert born 1718 at White House is my line. I belive he was also my 5x great grandfather. Help!! Ken
Pat: I replied to your comment of Feb. 8,2017 but apparently I do not know the proper way! Also I answered several other persons comments , but no answer. I am very much interested in following my tree. Please advise the right way. Thanks for your guidance. Ken Esgar . I would give my e-mail, not sure it is allowed.
I did reply to your email address but got no reply so let's see what happens when we keep it on the web page. You will see from the reply from John Rigarlsford last August that he has a very comprehensve tree of East Brent Residents which by the way includes sources so is worth looking at.
I still haven't found a marriage for Robert ESGAR/ISGAR and Jane. My husband is descended from their daughter Mary who married John EDWARDS in 1782 in East Brent.
I believe that Robert ESGAR/ISGAR was the son of a William ISGAR and a Mary EDWARDS who were married at Cossington in 1716. You can follow this family on The East Brent site of John Rigarlsford - link above.
Hi. You might like to look at my East Brent People website at: http://www.rooksbridge.org.uk/RootsMagicStuff/b137.htm#P2833 It has information in several members of the ISGAR/ESGAR families of East Brent including those who farmed at White House Farm Edingworth, East Brent,
There have been several generations of ISGAR/ESGAR farming there apparently from the late 1600's?
The ISGAR family finally sold the farm a few years ago when Jack ISGAR died and his widow moved to Rooksbridge. Mrs ISGAR died recently but the family is still in the area.
Jack ISGAR and his ancestors -the family name seems to have alternated between ISGAR and ESGAR- were prominent in village affairs over the years as Church wardens, Overseers and parish councillors etc.
I would have really liked to have found out more about the history of White house farm, but Jack ISGAR and his wife liked to keep their business private. which is fair enough.
You might also find information from the LOXTON and LYMPSHAM parish websites as I believe members of the various generations would have attended these churches? In the days when any form of transport was scarce these churches would have been nearer to White House Farm than East Brent on foot or by pony and trap!
The line I am following is Arthur Hicks born 1745, died 1820. Don't much else about his ancestors. Any help you can give me greatly appreciated. Thanks Ken Esgar

I also have ISGAR/ESGAR ancestors in the area, but mine were in Wrington. My G5 grandparents were Samuel & Mary Esgar and I have found the baptism of six children between 1792 and 1802, but I have not been able to find either their marriage or Samuel's baptism. Their is a marriage of Samuel Esgar to Mary Tucker in Westbury in 1772, but they are more likely to be the parents of my Samuel.
My line was Robert born 1718 E. Brent married to Jane. His line follows down to me. Any blank spaces along those lines may be be filled in. Any help appreciated. Thanks
