Eliza COOK and William OATEN
published by daveerasmus - 7 years 2 months 14 days ago.

Hi Beverley.

I eventually found William OATEN  by scrolling through all the 1851 Census images for Pitminster on Ancestry. The "O" in the original record was quite ornate and looks a bit like a "B" so the surname was transcribed as "Baton". No wonder I couldn't find it. I had hoped that, once I located him, I might find a COOK family living nearby. But no such luck. I need to put my thinking cap back on.

Peggy PEARCE - married in W-s-M 1945

Wedding 1945

This photo of the wedding was published on our web site in 2012 - so full marks for perseverance! I'm sorry that no one responded or recognised anyone in the group.  The marriage took place at Holy Trinity Church.   You mentioned Peggy's father - There is a death registered in Bristol in 1934 of a Cecil H PEARCE aged 34.  There is a marriage also registered in Bristol of a Cecil H PEARCE and a Florence E SWINDLEHURST or WOODHEAD in the June qrt of 1925 and the birth of a Peggy PEARCE was registered in the Dec qrt 1925 with mother's maiden name of SWINDLEHURST or GOODHEAD [sic].  There was a boy, Bryan H PEARCE born in 1930 to the same parents - also in Bristol, but I think he may have died in 1935.  But of course you may already know this!

Cecil PEARCE had an elder sister called Dorothy who married an Ernest DERRICK in 1936.  On the 1939 Register they are living in Bristol so I am assuming that they are the D & E DERRICK you mentioned in a previous post who witnessed the marriage.

Hello. My brick wall, my maternal grandmother. Supposed to be Alice Madge Moore, born Bristol 8/11/1874, no birth cert. She "appeared" in Surrey to nurse one Esther Gregory, nee Redman, who was dying of cancer, 1900. There seems to be Redman's in Surrey., so I though any clue however remote might find my Alice. Her wedding cert states father as John Moore, iron foundry worker, expect he is a figment. She told me that as a girl she lived in Weston, so here we go again. Thanks for your reply.  Joan
