Hi Pat,

Ah okay on Hugh - I didn't know that. I can see there is a Harriet Parsley listed on the 1851 census as a pupil at a private school somewhere in Westbury-on-Trym. Transcribed as born at Christon - so that might fit. The school is possibly Shirehampton Ladies' School that was run by Harriet Snelling and Ellen Dixon (also listed in the same census record).

Hallo Pat

Excellent talk last night - fascinating stories from Burlington Street. I'm afraid I misled you concerning my Jackway family at No.15.  The article with Sue for publication in the journal relates to an earlier generation of the Jackway family who were still in Winscombe.  Apologies for the confusion!

Thanks again for such an interesting talk.

Regards

Julie

Hi Richard.

Members who watched the talk on Clara's Cottage may recognise the name John KIRKBRIDE as at one time he owned plots of land in Burlington Street and it was while researching this that I was stumped by not being able to find reference to his wife's children by her previous marriage.  You can see how easy it is to get side-tracked away from the primary purpose of your research!   Did you find any sign of the daughter, Harriet, before her marriage in 1866?  Yes, the son was called Hugh and he appears to have been born in Newport, Mons.  I think the one who died in Yatton might have been born in Kenn in 1837.  Thanks for your suggestions - I hadn't picked up Harriet's second marriage.

Hi Richard,  Many thanks for your suggestions.  I had tried unsuccessfully to link the burial in 1833 with my family.  I can't find a will for that Robert LONG either but I am interested in your suggestion about a possible link with the GARLAND family which is a new one for me.  I know nothing about Susanna GARLAND apart from her marriage to Robert's son.  I'm really grateful for your help - another person's thoughts on my research is so helpful.

Edwin LONG R.A. 1829-1891

Hi Pat,

You probably already know this but here goes! There was a Robert Long living at 3 Dover Street (Dover Street) who died in April 1833 (Bath Burials - Robert Long). The interesting thing about 3 Dover Street was that a John Garland was also living there in 1823  (Bath Burials - John Garland ). He was killed by a kick from a horse.(p3, Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette 2 October 1823). My understanding is that Robert Long's second son, also called Robert, married a Susannah Garland in 1790. I am wondering if the Robert Long that died in 1833 might be the Long that married Hester? I tried to find a Prerogative Court of Canterbury will for Robert but found nothing. I am looking at a few books I own to see if I can find the connection for James and Robert.

Hi Pat, I hope you are well. Is their son called Hugh? If so, there is a Hugh Parsley buried in the parish of Yatton on 8 August 1898, aged 60. He was recorded as living at the workhouse in Long Ashton. He appears on the 1861 census as an agricultural labourer. Lastly, I think Harriet Emily marries again on 14 July 1887 to Henry Dibble. She died on 13 June 1928 and is buried at Saint Peter and St. Paul Churchyard, Bleadon.
