My great-aunt Fanny Sarah ACKLAND (nee ORGAN) died in Weston-Super-Mare in July 2000, aged 107, and was buried at Milton Road Cemetery on 27th July. She was born in Purton, Gloucestershire in 1893 and married Arthur ACKLAND, a schoolteacher, in 1916. In the 1930s they moved to Weston-Super-Mare and are recorded in the 1939 National Register as living at 45 Station Road; Fanny was still living there at the time of her death more than 60 years later. That is about all I know of her and I was wondering if anyone might have any more information; perhaps there is an obituary of her somewhere in view of her remarkably long life? Any information would be gratefully received.

Can anyone help please?

Jack LIDDELL was first mentioned in our Research Forum in 2015  with a little more information but with no replies. There is some information about him on the Dambusters Blog  apart from the fake letter.

When his name was added to the War Memorial in Grove Park would there have been details of his life discovered and who would have it?  Our Grove Park Memorial transcription does not include him - it was done before he was added.

VOWLES

Hi. I have both TILLEY and VOWLES in my tree. I've had a look at your website and tried to access your trees to see whether we are connected. It asks me to "sign up" but I'm not a member of Facebook any longer. Is there any other way to access your tree? I have a private tree on Ancestry and taken a DNA match.

Thinking about the sitn/split of WFHS website research forum V WFHS facebook - I noticed on the open facebook page of  our neighbours Bristol and Avon FH Society the following (dated 30/12/2020) " Just a reminder that this BAFH SOC page is used mainly for society information and announcements- we cannot enter into any discussions about your personal family history research. If you have any questions, need any help with brickwalls or want to share your research results with others , then please add posts to the BAFHS Soc page where you are very likely to generate a number of posts..."

Is this a possible way forward for WFHS Facebook page - to make it an "open" facebook - advertising news/events etc - capturing the "younger " market and at the same time openly directing everyone to the WFHS Society research forum page - enabling a "one stop" shop - people know where they are ?

Thank you Richard for all the information you have dug out for me, it certainly confirms Emily's parentage without doubt.

I will have a look at the Winscombe PRs to see if she is there but I do have my doubts as Ann obviously had started proceedings against Henry very early after Emily's birth, if not before. She was probably still living with her parents and Emily before she married 3 years later.

The demise of Henry must have been quite upsetting for everyone but especially for Emily knowing he was her genetic father.  I will look into his family now, as he is connected to mine albeit loosely.

Thanks again for your responses which have been most enlightening.

If Henry Hancock is who I think he is, then it did not end well for him (p. 8 of Weston Mercury, Saturday 14 August 1880):

"Winscombe. Distressing Suicide.-On Sunday morning the body of Mr. Henry Hancock, a farmer, well known in this neighbourhood, was found in the cellar with his skull blown to pieces. Information was at once given to the police, and P.C. Barrington was soon on the spot. Dr. Aubrey, of Banwell, was immediately summoned, and that gentleman quickly arrived on the scene, but of couse too late for his services to be of any avail. The deceased had been queer in his mind of late, but nothing of so disastrous a character was anticipated. The gun with which the dreadful deed was committed (a double barrelled one) was found lying across deceased's legs. An inquest was held on Tuesday by S. Craddock, Esq., coroner. After hearing the evidence of Eliza Taylor (the deceased's housekeeper), of Charles Morse (one of his workmen), and of Dr. Aubrey - Who had attended deceased on several occasions - The jury unanimously recorded a verdict of 'Suicide during a state of temporary insanity'.-The inhabitants of the neighbourhood deeply sympathise with the relatives of the deceased in their great trouble."
