Rev. H. G. Tomkins

Thank you, Pat, for your helpful information. I'll follow it up. A visit to the Internet will show that Tomkins was a prolific author on biblical history and archaeology, and also lectured on the history of Weston super Mare.

thank you very much indeed, Pat - that's more than I had ever hoped for! She's on my paternal side of the family, and my previous research i.e. Evors was mother's side, so Weston has both sides represented.

Is there a grave reference please? Would like to look for it when I visit. Again, thank you so much!    Jasmine

Christina LACE
published by Pat Hase - 8 years 11 months 16 days ago.

Christina LACE was buried in Milton Road Cemetery.  When members of this society transcribed the memorials on the graves for the CD which is now available - the one on her grave was unreadable either due to age and weathering or because of overgrowth but when Brian Austin surveyed the graves in the 1980s he had recorded this:

LACE, Christina b 5 9 1841 - 12 3 1908 widow of J.H.LACE of Stonegar, Yks., and youngest daughter of H.H. WILTON, Esq., of Whitminster Glos.

NB - Brian paraphrased what was on the grave - these may not be the exact words.

She died on the 12th March and was buried on the 16th March 1908 - John Henry LACE is not with her.

Rev Henry George TOMKINS
published by Pat Hase - 8 years 11 months 18 days ago.

The Rev Henry George TOMKINS had an earlier connection with Weston-super-Mare.

He was married to a Sophia COLEHURST  in 1853 at St John's Church Weston-super-Mare but his wife died (following the birth of their son) in 1855 and was buried at St John's Church. - details from our own transcriptions.  He is described as a J.P in Weston in 1855 and took part in the Petty Sessions that year.

According to our burial records of Milton Road Cemetery, Weston-super-Mare, the Rev TOMKINS died on the 21st Feb 1907 (not 1908) and was buried in the same grave as his second wife who had died in 1904 - Grave No Tc 908a.

None of this helps you with a photograph but you might try Weston Library - their North Somerset Studies Library has files of Information about local organisations.  If you contact them about the Sanatorium they may have some information or photographs which may be useful.  Sharon Poole, who has written several books about Weston, may also have photographs of the Sanatorium and its staff: she can be contacted here
