James PERRY 1783(?) -1855(?) published by Pat Hase - 8 years 7 months 12 days ago. | | Long Ashton Workhouse was situated in the parish of Flax Bourton and was in the Poor Law (and Registration) District of Bedminster. So the death of a James PERRY registered in the Bedminster District in 1855 is possibly the one you are looking for. I am not aware that the Workhouse had its own burial ground - there are burials of people who died there in Flax Bourton and Long Ashton. Some Workhouses sent bodies to their home parishes for burial - do you know where he was living before his admission - he might be buried there. Although there are a few Admission & Discharge Registers available for the Long Ashton Workhouse (In the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton) none have survived for the time of his stay there and the death Register starts in 1866.

While I'm not able to clarify published by - 8 years 7 months 12 days ago. | | While I'm not able to clarify on the baptism... I found an additional record for consideration in Dec 1784 in St Mary Taunton... the death record would fall under the Bedminster district. A quick search has found a death record for James Perry in Oct Dec 1855 in Bedminster. There are records held at the Somerset Heritage Centre from the workhouse.

MOORE Family - Burnham on Sea published by Pat Hase - 8 years 7 months 14 days ago. | | What evidence have you got that Thomas MOORE was born in Burnham on Sea? I note that a marriage between a Thomas MOORE and Anne YEOMANS took place in Ilminster Church in 1762 and that in 1764 presumably their son, Thomas, was christened in the Presbyterian Meeting House at Ilminster (so were two more brothers). As these christenings were non-conformist it is likely that their father was as well.

Charles POPE (1771-1818) published by Pat Hase - 8 years 7 months 20 days ago. | | Yes, that's the one they are referring to but what proof is there that he was the one who married in Nailsea?
Looking at our transcriptions of Wraxall baptisms for Charles POPE's children I see that there was Robert & Jane POPE having a child christened in Wraxall as well. When Robert POPE married Jane at Backwell he was also said to be of Wraxall - perhaps they were brothers? I had hoped that Robert might have survived until the 1851 census so that we could find out where he was born but unfortunately he died in 1849. The 1841 cnesus states that he was born in Somerset. Jane, Robert's wife, died in 1807 and he remarried a Sarah WILCOX (a widow) in Bristol in 1813. It might be useful to compare the names of Charles's and Robert's children to see if there are any similarities.
Of course Charles POPE could have been a non-conformist - between 1754 and 1837 everyone except for Quakers and Jews had to be married in the Church of England - which could be why you can't find a christening.
There is a chance that Charles POPE might be mentioned in the Church wardens' or Overseers' accounts for Wraxall which are at the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton - perhaps even saying where he came from.

chas pope published by - 8 years 7 months 21 days ago. | | FreeREG has a transcript of a parish register at Culbone of a baptism of a Charles Pope in 1772. This must be what people in the Ancestry trees are referring to:
