Need for Contributions from Members published by Pat Hase on Fri, 08/09/2017 - 23:39 | |
| As I’m waiting for a hip replacement perhaps I spend more time sitting at a computer than usual but I am concerned that only a few of our members contribute suggestions to the web page in response to queries and even fewer submit articles for our journal. If our Society is to fulfil its purpose to share information about family history research and to support fellow members it does mean that we all could to be a little more active.
There are of course members who support the society by giving unselfishly of their time and experience in the libraries, taking our stand to Family History Fairs, providing and/or maintaining the transcriptions, library, exchange journals, web site and providing refreshments etc. and to those members we are really grateful and indebted.
But, the lack of articles for Buckets & Spades is a real problem. Paul who is retiring as editor with the November edition does not want to hand over a difficult project. Surely, we have all found out some captivating facts about our families, the area or times in which they lived or have some memorabilia with an interesting background. The articles do not need to be very long but perhaps contain clues as to where you found the information and even better if you have a suitable illustration.
How about a pen portrait of one of your ancestors, or a particular brick wall which you have successfully knocked down? Have you come across any interesting or strange occupations? These articles are subsequently published on our web site and I have been delighted when I have received messages about something which was in an earlier edition.
Do you want to continue to receive Buckets & Spades? If so, please think how you can contribute to it. Please send any articles to Paul as soon as possible.
