Charles CLAPP and Mary Ann COLES
published by - 3 years 2 months 5 days ago.

I have recently joined and noticed this post from a few years ago.  I've been researching Charles Clapp (my 3rd Great-grandfather) and have some thoughts on this topic and possibly some answers. Please let me know if anyone is still interested.

Regards

Schools

I am not on the Facebook group, but my sister (aged 86) was head girl in 1951 and may be able to help with information.

Thanks, Pat. Apologies for the delay in responding but, like John H (see below), I was having problems loading this page. My thanks to Graham Payne for sorting it out.As regards your point, all I can say is that the Enumeration Description reads "All that part of the Parish of Blagdon....including....Broadfield Down..." Not sure where that takes us?Dave Erasmus

The Post Office along with most Government Etc concerns did not keep women on after marriage

Also the equal pay act did not come in till 1970

when I started on Royal Mail in Twickenham as a postman there were no women

It seems that there might be a question about the location of Broadfield Down - not that it in anyway answers your question about schools in that area!

Where was Broadfield Down was it Wrington or Blagdon?  I think it was roughly the area covered by the current Airport.  See vision of britain.
