The disappearance of Edmund NICHOLS
published by zumrob - 2 years 9 months 29 days ago.

Hi uphill

That was his father also called Edmund - you did have me questioning myself though (which is good) - Edmund Sr was living with Harry in the 1921 census so is definitely him - the age given on the burial is 82 which is too old for brother Edmund.

Cheers

Hi Rob - again - read this post and remembered that in Harrys newspaper obit - it said he was buried at Puxton with his parents - so checked Puxton burial records and Edmund Nichols was buried in the church 25/11/1922 - any chance u can find npaper  obit for him ? Sorry dont  want to appear "smart alec" with answer - whatever he was up to - obviously came back to family ?

Help with a death Certificate

I think it reads - Uncertain  and then Icterus - which is a form of jaundice.  Under that is olive green perhaps that described the colour of his skin?

Hewish and Puxton Harvest Festival Committee 1927

Rob   - Harry really did participate in local life - no wonder there are no details of his cricket skills - he was involved with so much more ! With skittles - I would expect u to find pics of his team in those GWR magazines also in the Weston Mercury - papers always seemed to report skittle matches !

Hope u do manage to find decent photo of him.

Re - old maps- have a look at "Know My Place" - a website of old maps for the West Country . Hope u surviving heat !

Is it Wonderstone or Understone at Bleadon?
published by zumrob - 2 years 10 months 1 day ago.

The 6 inch OS map from 1884 shows Wonderstone - no sign of a place called Understone.

The maps available at https://maps.nls.uk/ (National Library of Scotland) are great for identifying places.

Cheers Rob
