Samuel Tutton, Buried at Bleadon 29 March 1771 published by LeedsChris - 2 years 2 months 10 days ago. | | Graham, thank you so much. That is very helpful and I have success! Funnily enough I had previously checked on the monumental inscriptions file for Bleadon and didn't find it. I have now learned the lesson of checking throughly - I had scrolled through about 60 pages of headstones etc in the graveyard (which were typically burials from the Victorian era onwards) so had assumed I wouldn't find anything from 1771. Following your prompt I have now scrolled through to page 66 in the document and there is a list of the internal monuments and, sure enough, there is the memorial that reads “In Memory Of Mary The Wife Of Samuel Tutton Gent. Of This Parish Who Died April 19 1769 In The 67 Year Of Her Age, Leaving Him Almost Disconsolate; As The Last Testimony Of His High Esteem Of Her Conjugal And Domestic Virtues Which Made Him Happy 21 Years, Erected This Monument”. I can't see any record of a monument for Samuel himself, but at least I now have details for his wife. There is an attached photo IMG9448. This is a little fuzzy, so if you do have a copy to send, that would be much appreciated.

SPERRING published by - 2 years 2 months 17 days ago. | | Hello Duncan, I'm one of the Sperrin variation which I guess will be included in your spreadsheet. Good luck with that. Do you use Ancestry by any chance because our Tree is there?. My 2x GGF, John George SPERRIN(G) can be found tracing back to his birth, which is shown as Blagdon at the end of the 18th century. Unfortunately I have not yet found the record of his birth. The tree may however, make your task easier. Thanks to a DNA match though it's possible to go back, say 75% accurately, as far as Isaac SPIRRING in West Harptree (1743) and also less so to Joseph SPERRING born around 1700. This Sperring/Spirring tree is not yet on Ancestry; it's too suspect. As you say an interesting project. If I can help let me know. Regards, Alan Sperrin, b1937. | |
