Thanks for that. Almost all

Thanks for that. Almost all that you say confirms my notes but I remain very uncertain that the THOMAS GALLOP of Wrington is the same THOMAS GALLOP who married ELIZABETH BADMAN at Burrington. My main reasons for the doubt is first that THOMAS and RICHARD of Wrington had the trade of carpenters. In 1803 both of them are listed in the Apprentices records as jointly taking on an apprentice in that trade. The marriage record of 1811 at Burrington states that THOMAS was a labourer. Second if THOMAS & ELIZABETH raised their family in nearby Churchill I would have expected a burial record of THOMAS at Wrington to have said that he was "of Churchill". I had assumed that THOMAS of Wrington had remained there working with his father (who died in 1816) and never married. I remain of an open mind on this as I have no firm evidence one way or another. COP LIPPETT

Agree Les, Cop Lippett has its charm. Have been unsuccessful in trying to find the origin of the name and when/why it was changed.  Have gone down Lippiatt Lane but there is no big sign with my ancesters name or house number on it....haha.  Thanks for the info.

Thanks Arthur.  I gather the name was changed as Cop Lippett is definitely printed on the 1871 Census. Have looked through Google Earth at Lippiatt Lane, but house numbers, except one, are not visible.

Thank you for the map link....very interesting!  The Census copy I have for 1871 for my relative definitely is printed as Cop Lippett with the house number and subsequent pages for other people.  I have looked at Lippiatt Lane through Google Earth but have found only one house with a number, others are hidden, so I'm guessing at which place it is.

The GALLOP family
published by daveerasmus - 8 years 6 months 21 days ago.

I, too, have the GALLOPs in my tree. However, they are not one of my main lines and therefore I cannot claim to have dotted every i and crossed every t in my research of them. So, although I offer the following as "to the best of my knowledge" it does come with a slight health warning:

1. Richard GALLOP married Rachel HUGHES at Wrington on 10 July 1774

2. Their son Thomas GALLOP was baptised at Wrington on 18 March 1779

3. There was one other child - Elizabeth Hughs GALLOP (bap 17 September 1775)

4. Thomas GALLOP married Elizabeth BADMAN (a widow) in Burrington (3 miles from Wrington) on 31 March 1811.

5. Their son William was baptised at Churchill on 21 February 1819. Their abode was recorded as Doleberrow which is 3 miles from Burrington and less than a mile (as the crow flies) from Churchill. (Nempnett is around 8 miles from Churchill I think.)

6. Thomas GALLOP was buried in Wrington on 23 August 1826. The recorded age was 47 which fits with a birth year of 1779.

7. Richard GALLOP  was baptised in Wrington on 10 january 1747. His parents were William GALLOP and Martha.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply. A very interesting discovery, thank you for your research. The Lincolnshire connection is there with Emma DOWNES, although I don't know of a Maud.

My mother Freda was taken in by a family in the name of TURNER in the Shelfield area of Walsall (smallholders). She left their home when she was 16 yrs old c1932 and apparently went into service. perhaps this was with the ECCLESHALL family in Wolverhampton. My mother married my father Arthur William John Parsons on October 10th 1939 at St Margarets Church, Great Barr, Birmingham.

I will check the records at the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton which is only 15 miles from me. I moved to Devon 33 yrs ago.
