Censuses are great for family

Censuses are great for family history. As your grandad was born around 1901-02 I would try the 1911 one. Family Search has a census record of them, just fill in what you know & tick the right boxes: https://familysearch.org/search/ Would he have been Sinclair Glossop? I found that him & an Ina Evelyn Glossop registered in Axbridge district using http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl Nathan

HEllon, I'm not sure if anyone will read this so long after the original article posting but yes, I recognise my family name - Glossop. I know my grandfather was originallying from weston and was born around 1901/02 - could JH Glossop be an ancestor of mine? And how could I find out? Alice Glossop

hi Denis

Sorry I haven't been in touch, but had a few health problems, then my computer decided to call it a day. Now have a new computer so hope to continue with the problem of where Betty fits into my family tree. Just wanted you to know I hadn't forgotten.

wishing you a Happy New Year.

kind regards

Linda

That's great Dave - thanks, and another example why it is important to look at the original document if possible - I noticed that Ancestry has two sets of images and both would seem to be copies from elsewhere so errors can occur in the parish registers also.  A John CLARKE had married an Ann SLADE the year before in Butcombe so that looks promising.

I have looked at the images on Ancestry. "norket the son of John and Ann Clarke" was baptised in Butcombe on 7 June 1807. I think it has been incorrectly transcribed as "Robert" in the transcriptions on this site.
