Thank you, Pat. Definitely the right DARTNELLs. Barbara married Kenneth GRAINGER in 1950.

As far as I understand it Brown's Cafe, did not move but the numbering of the High Street properties were changed when High Street was extended to include Union Street. Before this development (in the early 1960s) High Street numbering began at Grove Park but today it starts at the Oxford Street end.

This is an advertisement in a 1923 Street Directory but a very similar one appears in the 1917 Directory,

You can compare the frontage to 76 High Street on Google Street View.

This is one of the joys of the 1939 register - it throws up the unexpected!

Between 1933 and 1942 the Street Directories show a Miss K DIXON at the same address as the BROWN family but she is not included on the 1939 Register.

The birth date of Ada M DARTNELL (Transcribed as DARTNEWLL) is given as Dec 29 1892 and she is described as a widow. The entry for Barbara DARTNELL born Sept 6 1927 was updated 15:4:1950 to give her married name of GRAINGER.

The birthdate of Wilfred M BROWN is incorrectly transcribed as 16 Dec 1920 - the original shows 16 Dec 1860.

That's interesting, Pat.

I have Ada Mary DARTNELL (nee GALE) and her daughter Barbara J. in my tree. Ada was born in Portishead in 1892 and was widowed in 1934.

Are you able to provide any more details to enable me to tie them in please? (I don't have access to the 1939 register currently.)
