CommentsFlorence Jones & Ernest Mayne published by - 8 years 4 months 23 days ago. | | Hi Kate, thank you so much for the info on Florence-I am an Ancestry member so we look up Arthur Foxwell to see the pictures and add the facts to my tree. Her facts do tie in well- I can't believe she lived until 85, I wonder if she knew anything about my grandmother who was living in Coventry by then, probably not as I undertand the adoptive family cut all ties and did not speak to my grandmother about her birth parents.
I have just got my copies of the birth and death certificates for the twins Florence Jones and Ernest Mayne had in 1910 (the female twin Florence being my grandmother). They were born at 9 Anstice terrace on 15th July. Florence has put her name as Mayne but it does appear that she was never actually married to him. Sadly Ernest Jnr died at 4 mths old, cause of death given as'premature birth at 8 months, non assimilation of food'. It looks as if the twins were given up at birth as the informant is Gilbert Shorney (my grandmother's adoptive fathert) and the address on the death certificate is 4 Walliscote Grove Road, Weston Supermare where the Shorney's lived. It does say under the Occupation column on the certificate the name of the birth father 'Ernest Mayne, Marine Engineer'.
Ernest Mayne could possibly have been irish- as that is the family rumour- but other than 'Marine Engineer' there is no info about him. I was thinking of looking in WW1 records to see if he appears anywhere as he may have served on ship?
Kind regards
Natalie

Florence Jane JONES published by Kate Stabb - 8 years 4 months 26 days ago. | | Hi Natalie, Florence Jones married Arthur A (Albert) Foxwell 1934 Cardiff. They were still in Cardiff on the 1939 register. Florence's dob given as 18 June 1883 which is an error. I checked Eliza Ellen (Nellie) Curry on the Register which gave her dob as 10 June 1885 which should be 1883 from the death register. Arthur Foxwell died in Weston 1934. From findagrave.com for Weston super Mare Cemetery, I found Florence Jane Jones Foxwell plus a photo of the headstone which reads "In loving memory of my dear sister Florence Foxwell. Died May 14th 1968 aged 85" If you look on Ancestry under Arthur Albert Foxwell, you will find a photo of Florence. Sorry I haven't got anywhere with Ernest Mayne. Regards, Kate

Anstice Terrace published by - 8 years 4 months 30 days ago. | | Hi all
Thank you for the leads, this is very exciting, I am going to do some further digging- I did not realise that my grandmother was a twin and that is a revelation- thank you Elizabeth for the information. I will order the birth and death certificate for Ernest and see what info is on them. Graham has provided an address at the time of death so that will be helpful, it is also very near to the Shorney's address who adpoted the other twin, my grnadmother.
I dont think Ernest and Flrence Snr were married, which is making it harder to track them as the marriage doc gives useful evidence. Debbie's Jones link could be a possible for my Florence Snr, it could be a coincidence but it also could be my great grandmother! I will look into this link, please let me know if you find anything else. I was thinking that the Shorney's were a family friend and offered to adopt baby Florence, they seem to live near. The Shorney family eventually moved to Covnetry with my grandmother and two of their own children, which is where my dad was born.
Thanks All
Natalie

Anstice Terrace published by DebbieD - 8 years 5 months 8 days ago. | | Probably just a coincidence as the name is so common, but my great grandmother Eliza Ellen "Nellie" JONES was living at 13 Anstice Terrace in 1891. She married into the CURRY family and through them was related to a SHORNEY family. By 1901 Nellie and her family were living nearby in Alma Street and were still there in 1911. Nellie had a sister Florence Jane born in 1882. As far as we know Florence had no children and married a widower when she was in her 50s. I am sure there are quite a few possibilities for your great grandmother Florence MAYNE nee JONES but this has certainly got me wondering about my great gran's sister.
As Elizabeth says, Florence Mary appears to have been a twin. I think Ernest Junior's death certificate may be useful. I will have another look at my SHORNEY links to see if there is a closer connection.
