Frederick MARTILL
published by Pat Hase - 8 years 3 months 24 days ago.

It depends how much you already know - as he is your ancestor you probably know more than we do!.  We thnk he was born in about 1812 and was christened in Bray in Berkshire (near Maidenhead).  His parents were John & Ann MARTILL and he married twice - first time to Sarah Esther GILDERSON in 1836 and after she died he married Ann WATKINS.  He had eleven children by his first wife and a further three by his second.  Where do you fit in?

Hi Tricia

I am not sure why they were missing but the early transcripts for Puxton have been reinstated and are now available for Society members to view online.

Trewartha Park - house numbering
published by Pat Hase - 8 years 3 months 28 days ago.

If you look at the O.S map for Weston produced in the 1880s and compare it with a modern map you can see that the road positioning has changed and Trewartha Park was lengthened to meet up with Bristol Road Lower from its original end at the junction with Montpelier East.  When the new houses were built - possibly about 1912 the road would have required renumbering.

Ernest Mayne -Irish
published by - 8 years 3 months 30 days ago.

Thanks All for the Ernest Mayne info, it sounds as if the RC Electrical engineer could be a link as looking at the information posted, the other Ernest (Boyd) emigrated to Canada in 1907, so couldn't have been in Weston Supermare in 1910. A married man may have explained why the twins were given up for adoption after birth as Ernest already had his own family back in Ireland.

I have the marriage certificate for Florence Jnr and Albert Elliott as they are my grandparents. It is very interesting as the original document has her adoptive father's details and then a year later my grandmother has contacted the registry office and corrected the details regarding her father so an admendment is written on the certificate - Ernest Mayne Marine Engineer is entered following a statutory declaration made by Florence. Unfortunately my dad and his brothers didn't ask any questions of their mother so Florence'sbirth parents Ernest Mayne and Florence Jones remain a mystery, she didnt even know she was a twin.

The whole family are gripped by the latest developments so a huge thanks for all of your help

Natalie
