Thank you very much for all this really interesting detail, I will investigate further. I am really sorry that I was unaware of any replies to my query and have taken over year to get back to you. Thanks again Clare Cheetham

Many thanks for this! Sorry it's taken me over a year to discover your reply and respond to you. I have found a marriage record that says Thomas Browning was listed as a grocer and I will investigate further using the info you've given me. Thanks again Clare Cheetham

An excellent book for information about this area is  "Weston-Super-Mare and the Aeroplane"  by Roger Dudley &Ted Johnson.  It is now available on Kindle

If you haven't already done so, contacting  The Helicopter Museum at Weston should provide the photographs you seek

Hi guys, I am a freelance journalist and I have just written an article on RAF Weston-super-Mare for Britain At War Magazine. I would like to some high res copies of pictures of the airfield and/or Oldmixon during WW2. If anybody can help me with this I would be very grateful. Many thanks Robin Whitlock

British Newspaper Archive
published by Pat Hase - 7 years 11 months 28 days ago.

Today, on the Britsh Newspaper Archives site, it has been announced that the

  • Weston-super-Mare Gazette, and General Advertiser now covers the following issues February 15, 1845  -  December 31, 1904.  They plan to cover 1845-1909
  • Weston Mercury has these issues available January 3, 1874   - December 25, 1909.  They plan to cover 1855-1911 so watch this site!

So if you are researching this area (the Gazette also covers the Clevedon Journal) you should find these very helpful.
