Monumental Inscriptions

Are Sandford and Churchill MIs all part of the same churchyard as they both seem to be the same?  Both are headed Churchill Methodist M.I.s.

what's in a name

There is a Mary GLANNON mentioned in the Rate Books for Southwark in 1821 and again in 1831.  She appears to have died in 1835, aged 53 and was buried in St Olave's Church - Isn't that near where Henry & Hannah CRICHARD lived?

I found this which may explain it.

The Mary GLANNON who witnessed that marriage in 1817 was born Mary LOOKER in about 1782 - Hannah's sister? You would need to check that out.

This looks like the arrival of the rest of the family.

One thing which strikes me about this complicated state of affairs that if you arrive in Tasmania with a name of "Freeman" where you would be surrounded with ex-convicts who might be described as Freemen then it would be a good idea to change that name!  But why Buckland?  Does that appear anywhere as a surname?

Hi Les

I think you have nailed it.  It matches well with the reading of the original record as Sharget. Many thanks, I would not have got there without your help.

Many thanks Pat.  That is a great help.  SHARGET is definitely a possible interpretation of that writing.  And that works well with Les' later comments.
