Hi Pat, did Charles and Harriet have a son John Isaac or a daughter Emily Clara?

If so there's a couple of Weston-super-Mare newspaper references one for Emily marrying in 1865 which calls her the daughter of Charles but doesn't say the late Charles. and another for John that refers to his father as the late Charles Gregory in 1874.

If they are his children then it could narrow down the death date to after 1865 and confirm Harriet's statement about being a widow.

He had several siblings. I had a quick check to see if he was living with any of them, but no luck. Might be worth looking to see if any left a Will. I so, there might be some kind of reference to him in there.

Thanks Dave, always good to have a second opinion even if negative!  I'm looking now for all the variants of GREGORY.

Totally stumped by this one, Pat. Searched Ancestry, Findmypast, FreeReg and FamilySearch - deaths, burials, marriages, emigration, family trees etc- all to no avail. Possible change of name?

I think the majority of people in the photos are unidentified. We are pretty confident we have identified most close family but are unsure if Auntie Aggie is in some of the photos.  The sisters between them ran the boarding house in Weston for around 50 years, so they must have known a lot of people.  I now know that my grandfather met his wife at Maycot, just as my father met my mother there, so I certainly owe my existence to the enterprise of the sisters!

Witnesses at weddings
published by Jude - 4 years 8 months 18 days ago.

Like you I have also noticed the recurrent names listed as witnesses at marriages in two other parishes. JOHN ISGAR is a witness at the marriage of JOHN PALMER and SARAH BERRIMAN in 1778 at Churchill and on previous records back to 1762. From 24.12.1778 JACOB ISGAR's name appears instead as a witness.

At Yatton JOSEPH LUKINS similarly is listed in numerous marriage records. In the Monumental Inscriptions for that parish JOSEPH LUKINS who died 26.6.1785 is described as "Clerk of Parish". It seems possible that The ISGARS were also Parish Clerks and that acting as a witness at marriages was part of that role.
