CommentsHARES published by - 4 years 7 months 1 day ago. | | I wonder if she is any relation to David Hares (1890-1964), who married my mother's aunt? His wife was Catherine Amy Pettie, who was a daughter of Henry and Jane Pettie of Weston.
What we have of David's ancestry is at https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/KZDR-MKF
HARES published by daveerasmus - 4 years 7 months 1 day ago. | | Yes, that's what I found as well. I was wondering about the possibility of William marrying 2 Sophias, the first having been the mother of Selina, but then dying pre-1837. A real longshot, I know.
HARES published by Pat Hase - 4 years 7 months 2 days ago. | | Hi Dave, Wishing you a Happy New Year as well! Years ago when I first came across this problem I found on the 1841 census that a Jesse HARES was born to them after civil registration - I sent for his birth certificate - mother's maiden name given as STOCK. Since then I've been able to look at the GRO Index and all the children after him show the same mother's maiden name. All the children were baptised as children of William and Sophia HARES - including the unregistered ones.
HARES published by daveerasmus - 4 years 7 months 2 days ago. | | Hi Pat. A Happy New Year to you. I've looked at this a few times now and, like you, got nowhere. I think I know the answer to this, but why do you think that Sophia's maiden name was Stock? Dave Erasmus
HARES published by Pat Hase - 4 years 7 months 6 days ago. | | Selina HARES born in Shipham in about 1824 married Henry HASE in Shipham in 1846. She was Henry's first wife and she died in childbirth in Axbridge in 1856. I believe her parents were William HARES and Sophia STOCK - I've not found a marriage for them.
