Johnson family
published by on Fri, 18/10/2013 - 7:42
Still trying to find any additional information on Reverend Thomas Gilpin Johnson, his wife Ellen and their children Helen Howard Johnson, Thomas Norman Howard Johnson and Dorothy Millicent Howard Johnson.

Since my last contact I have come across the enlistment papers of Thomas jnr in June 1913. Believe he was still living with his parents and gives their address as 16 Churchill road Weston-super-Mare.
I am a little confused as the papers say he enlisted into the Grenadier Guard in June 1913 and then was discharged on 25 August 1913 with payment of £10.
When he was killed in action in 1917 Flanders he was in the 9th Devonshire Regiment

Looking for any information on the Sperrin family.

My great great great grandfather Zephaniah 'James' Sperrin b1848 father John George Sperrin mother Jane Coulter

Married Harriet Morgan 19-08-1847 two daughters Ann Rosina, Millinda

Immigrated to Melbourne, professional Jeweller watchmaker.

He changed his name to James Stephenson at sometime.

After Harriet's death he married Louisa Minton 12-01-1893. She had had a child out of wedlock previously with someone else. Child was adopted out.

Then there is no trace of him.

Biscuit Factory in Weston-super-Mare?
published by Pat Hase on Tue, 08/10/2013 - 23:23

I've had this query from Australia.

"My grandfather Kenneth Cyril BIGGS lived in Weston-Super-Mare. Born 1904 and migrated to Australia in 1910 with his mother Amelia BIGGS and father Edward William BIGGS with his 10 brothers and sisters.  My grandfather would go to a biscuit factory close by to take the biscuits that used to be tossed out, the broken ones. He and a friend used to wag school to go to this factory. I am researching the name of that factory and where it was in Weston super mare and what is there in its place now."

The BIGGS family was living in Wooller Road at the time of the 1901 census.  Can anyone suggest where this Biscuit Factory might have been?  Perhaps it was a Bakery which specialised in cakes and biscuits rather than bread - I will pass on any suggestions.

Mabel Buck
published by on Sat, 28/09/2013 - 15:04
I'm looking for anyone who may be related to my Grandmother, Mabel Constance Buck, born 1897 in Long Ashton. Father was George, quarryman from Nailsea, Mother Emily (Ware) Tickenham. Siblings, Richard, Malinda, George, James. John, Samuel & Oliver. She left to marry my Grandfather in 1918 having broken her engagement off to a soldier, who was serving in the first war. She settled in Kensington, London, but was widowed in 1928, with 3 young daughters, she died in the late 20's and my mother and sisters were sent to a children's home, then into service. They knew nothing of her family, who may have disowned her. Does this ring any bells to anyone, who may know of a relative who caused a family scandal? I would love to know more, only having 1 picture of her with her previous fiancée, in uniform. Thanks, Hilary.
