Still trying to find any additional information on Reverend Thomas Gilpin Johnson, his wife Ellen and their children Helen Howard Johnson, Thomas Norman Howard Johnson and Dorothy Millicent Howard Johnson.
Since my last contact I have come across the enlistment papers of Thomas jnr in June 1913. Believe he was still living with his parents and gives their address as 16 Churchill road Weston-super-Mare.
I am a little confused as the papers say he enlisted into the Grenadier Guard in June 1913 and then was discharged on 25 August 1913 with payment of £10.
When he was killed in action in 1917 Flanders he was in the 9th Devonshire Regiment
It is slightly more confusing because the medal card for Thomas Norman Howard JOHNSON lists him as a Private and with two Service Numbers
Gloucestershire Regiment 5479
Devonshire Regiment 33633
It looks as if he must have enlisted again at the outbreak of WW1 following his short spell in the Grenadier Guards in 1913 - but as yet I haven't located these later enlistment papers.
Is there anyone with a better knowledge of Military research able to offer advice?
Ellen was from a very well off family in Lancashire but seems she lived in Weston-super-Mare for at least 5 or 6 years and had plenty of money of her own.
Can anyone find anything on her please
Fiona
