Frank Comer Durston published by on Tue, 15/10/2013 - 23:15
I am trying to confirm the parents of Frank Comer Durston born 19/01/1882 at Brent Knoll, Somerset.
I believe his Mother was Ann Durston nee Hutson.
I'm also looking for the Marriage of Fanny Comer to ? Durston.
Thanks,
Grant Board.
The baptism of Frank Comer DURSTON and siblings can be found on our site in the Parish of South Brent which of course later became Brent Knoll. According to FreeBMD there was a marriage registered during the Dec qrt of 1873 in the Registration District of Axbridge of a Charles DURSTON and an Ann COMER who might be his parents. According to the censuses Ann DURSTON nee COMER was born in Lympsham and you can find details of their marriage in the Lympsham transcriptions.
FreeBMD shows the death of a Charles DURSTON in 1882 aged 39, and the marriage in 1888 of an Ann DURSTON (presumably his widow) to a John CHAMPION. They can be found on the 1891 census with Frank Comer DURSTON described as a son.
You may already have seen this but The Western Daily Press of the 7th June 1933 carried this item:
Death Abroad - Many Somerset families have suffered bereavement by the death at Hangatiki, New Zealand of Mr FrankComerDurston (51), a Government surveyor in that colony. He married Miss Mary Corner, a niece Robert Board, C.C. of Bumham-on-Sea, and his widow survives him. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. Charles Durston, of Vole, East Brent, Somerset.
The Hutson family were really of Mark, even though one branch farmed at Vole Farm which was then classed as being in the parish of South Brent (not East Brent as the press cutting states) - this has caused a lot of unnecessary research and confusion. Durston were also at Huntspill - both names occur in my family pedigree in the Brent Levels. I have most of the Hutson family history who emigrated to USA arriving in New York in 1870.
Charles Durston married Ann Hutson at Mark 12th Aoril 1828 - I do have other notes of this family details, but I doubt the validity as they indicate him to have married 5 times???!! - However, their 1st born was recorded in 1827 as Charles Durston but who died in the following year.

Frank C Durston died in New Zealand 11 May 1933. If you go on to Archives NZ web site and to the right of the screen there is a heading Archway. Click on that and put Durston in search area up come Frank Comer Durston's NZ Army records. It is free to down load. His mother Annie Durston, Brent Knoll is named as NOK as well as a cousin Miss Mary/May Comer.
Anything else I can help with please get in touch.

Great work Lynette, I will work on those suggestions.

Many thanks.

The DURSTON family were living at a farm on West Hill, Tickenham at Stone Edge Batch. John Durston used to work with us and I know he has a sister in Nailsea who is following the DURSTON family tree. John DURSTON said his father came from Mark.
This might help you. Any further info I would have to contact John.
