Somerset Parish records
published by on Sat, 09/04/2016 - 14:28

If I look at original copies of Somerset Parish Records will I be able to find the parents of the bride and groom (1700's-1800's)? Are there copies in Taunton or can I see them anywhere else? Also Bristol Parish Records?

Hope someone can help, Thank You

Chris Dye

I'm trying to find more information on Eliza Webb b. 1808 d. 1886 South Brent (now Brent Knoll) m William Fletcher b.1809-d.1891of Banwell. I am interested in both of their ancestors. I have quite a bit of information on them from GRO and Ancestry.com - census records etc. but can't seem to get back to the previous generations. Would appreciate any pointers.

Thanks Jeanette

43 St. Paul’s Road, Weston-super-Mare
published by on Tue, 29/03/2016 - 14:17
I am trying to find some information on someone who I believe may be my Great Grandfather.
His name was Thomas Carter and he lived at No 43 St. Paul’s Road, Weston-super-Mare until he died in March, 1952.
He had been Head Porter at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge until he retired in 1934 when sometime after that date he moved to Western-super-Mare.
He was married to a Martha (Smith) in Cambridge until she passed away in 1927,
so he may have lived out his life in WSM on his own!

There may be someone still around that may have known him, but I think that's very unlikely, but any information would be appreciated!

10 Beach Road, Weston-super-Mare
published by on Thu, 24/03/2016 - 8:53

I have an ancestor, Caroline Allen, described as a lodging house keeper at 10 Beach Road, Weston-super-Mare.  She lived at this address for over 30 years and was recorded in the censuses between 1871 and 1901.  I see on the web that 10 Beach Road is now a cafe and I would like to know whether this is the original building of the 19th century, or if it was re-built at some stage during the last century.

Does any member living in the town know the history of this section of Beach Road?

Hello.. Thanks for adding me.
I'm looking for any stories or information on my grandfather, Douglas Albert Dugdale. Born in Portsea 1867, Died in Clevedon September 1947. He was married to Margaret Rymer, and they had 2 children. My aunt and my Dad, Douglas Dugdale.

D.A. Dugdale was a glass and antique merchant who travelled quite a bit, before settling in Clevedon.

Thanks
Sandy

My Somerset Families:- ELMS HUGHES;COOM(B)S;SCOURSE;SHUTT(E)
published by on Thu, 17/03/2016 - 15:45
Hello,

My name is Chris Dye, originally from South Wales but now living in Norfolk. I became interested in my family history in the 70's and have been doing bits off and on ever since. My maiden name was ELMS, and while my father was alive he got that side of the family back to the 1700's to Chew Magna; High Littleton and Clutton. My paternal grandmother's maiden name was HUGHES and I assumed this would lead me into Wales....but no my Hughes family arrived in S. Wales from Camerton and Dunkerton in the early 1800's.

My mother's maternal side are also from Somerset (and Devon). This is the side I am concentrating on at the moment. My Grandmother was a COOMBS ( or COOMS or COOMBES) the family seem to have come from the Weston area. Christopher Charles was baptised November 2nd 1823 Parents Laurence and Ann COOMS but I'm struggling to find their marriage. I think I've found Laurence bap. on May 9th 1782 to Thomas and Sarah COOMS. Christopher married Deborah SCOURSE from Cheddar. Their son Henry James Married Emma SHUTT I have her family back to her grandfather Robert from Trull.

Any information on any of these names gratefully received.

Thanks, Chris Dye welsh.exile62@gmail.com
