Pople family in North End Yatton and Berrow
published by on Tue, 08/04/2014 - 14:57

I am interestested in the link between two branches of what are probably the same family. I have Samuel Pople (1826) of Yatton marrying Maria Pople (abt 1826) of Berrow at Bristol on 26 April 1852.

Samuel was descended from James (1795) of Yatton and Maria was descended from William (1782) of Berrow. Does anyone know the link between the two sides?

My other main interest is Ellen Pople (1835) of Yatton who is a direct ancestor of mine. She married William Leishman a Scotsman (or possibly not). Many researchers (especially in the US) have a different William to mine marrying Ellen, but I think my William (b1819 in Liverpool) is the right one. Ellen moved around a lot and William disapeared, maybe to America. Any information would be welcome.

Hi I'm trying to understand why my direct line ancestors (below) said in old NZ and Bristol newspaper articles they were from Marsh Farm Berrow when the census's c.1850 -70 list them as employing workers on Unity Farm? BURGE BURDGE BIRDGE BIRCH BURGES name variations
published by on Wed, 19/03/2014 - 1:55

Im researching the BURGE family of Claverham/Yatton/Somerset. Our Burge line (Henry) came to Victoria Australia in 1857. His father (Benjamin) was buried at St Marys on the 4th of Aug 1822, his mother (Jane) also many years later. It seems that our Burge ancestors were farm labourers and tannery yard workers. If anyone else is researching or related to this family I'd love to hear from you. Im having trouble finding out where Benjamin came from and who his parents were. Regards Jasmin Burge

Bleadon Parish Church - St Peter and St Paul
published by on Mon, 17/03/2014 - 15:59
Could anyone tell me if there are any old headstones still visible in the churchyard of the above Parish. I am particularly interested in one dating from 1658 which has three names on it, i.e. John Whippey 1658, NATHANIEL DEAN buried 5 March 1724 or 1727 and Frances Tutton, thought to be Nathaniel's daughter.

Nathaniel Dean's burial is not in the Parish register, this was confirmed in a document dated 1900 by the then Rector of the Parish when he was commissioned to research what had become of Nathaniel Dean.

Ellen Fear
published by on Sun, 16/03/2014 - 21:20
I am looking for anyone who may be related to Ellen Fear born 1879.
She was a resident in the Axbridge workhouse with her mother Sarah and two sisters. According to the 1891 census she worked at Dunhelm farm Lympsham. in later censuses she has three sons but have never married.

She married my grandfather in 1906 and they moved to Pontypridd.
she died in 1912 in Pontypridd.

Marriage - Caroline JARVIS to Henry HAM 1858
published by Les Martels on Thu, 13/03/2014 - 19:58

I am trying to locate the marriage of the above relatives. Caroline came from South Brent (Brent Knoll) where I expected to find the marriage and Henry came from Chapel Allerton.  The civil registration for Axbridge shows they married 2nd quarter of 1858 and their first child (that I have found) Harry was born 2/1862 Chapel Allerton.  Followed by Hephzibah 1/1864, George Henry Lewis (J) 3/1866, Charles 2/1869 (or 3/1869) and Harriet 2/1871.  It is possible that another child was born between 1858 and 1862 as she seemed to have children pretty regularly.

The family emigrated to America in 1872 where I have found later information.

Does anyone have access to Chapel Allerton marriages and baptisms and would be willing to look these dates for me please?

Kind regards,

Elizabeth
