Bond

I'm interested in finding any members of the Bond family. My grandad was Bertie Bond and they lived in Ewart Road. He was married to Minnie Crossman and had 9 children. My mum was Catherine Bond - sadly she is not with us anymore.

James MILLARD and Jane PARFREY
published by Pat Hase on Sun, 03/01/2016 - 16:00

Following the success in finding where William HASE actually lived and probably worked (See January Update)  - I’ve been looking again at his family and attempting to break down a few long standing brickwalls and I need some help!

William HASE married Rebecca MILLARD in St James Bristol in Feb 1819 (one of the witnesses being a James MILLARD who signed his name) and I’ve been trying to find out more about her.

A Rebecca Parfray[sic] MILLARD was christened in the 17th Dec 1801 at Compton Bishop Parish Church the daughter of James & Jane MILLARD who had been married  in 1787 in Axbridge Parish Church as James MILLARD and Jane PARFREY and went on to have 9 children.  But who were James and Jane?

  • Jane MILLARD née PARFREY was buried 29th July 1809 Compton Bishop
  • James MILLARD married again to Elizabeth SEGAR 19th Sept 1832 Compton Bishop
  • James MILLARD died 12 Dec 1845 informant was Rebecca CAPLE (who I believe was born Rebecca SELWOOD, married William CAPLE and named her first child Ann Parfrey CAPLE)

A simple question - Who were the parents of James MILLARD and Jane PARFREY?  I’m now getting bogged down with MILLARD, SELWOOD, PARFREY, and CAPLE not to mention their variants – I need rescuing!!

History of Burlington Street
published by on Wed, 23/12/2015 - 17:25

Please advise, my grandfather was born at 1 Burlington Street

in the 1870's.

For research I visited this address and there appeared to be

a complete reversal of house numbers.

In fact it appeared that my grandfathers original address had

been demolished.?

I would appreciate some dates or street plans which would

help in the determination of reasons in alterations, etc.

Regards                                        Mike

Research Software
published by Alun George on Sun, 06/12/2015 - 9:58

I realise this request is a little out of the ordinary.

Would anyone be able to recommend a software package for storing information and producing charts etc?

I have been using Family Tree Maker which has been "okay" but I have run into a couple of issues since upgrading to Windows 10.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for parents of ANN HURST
published by on Fri, 04/12/2015 - 4:06

I am trying to find the parents of my great-great grandmother, ANN HURST.  Our family Bible says, "Ann Hurst (Pearce) - Whirl, Eng. Married at Bristol, Eng. and came to America, Marcellus, NY. in 1873.  I assume Whirl is actually Worle.  The Bible states Ann's husband as HENRY PEARCE - Milton, Somersetshire, Eng. Parish Kewstoke.

There is also a family story that Ann Hurst attended a school in Glastonbury at one time.

I have found the marriage register for "Harry" Pearce and ANN HARSE, 16 Sep 1840. Bristol, Temple, Gloucestershire, Eng. which lists her father as WILLIAM HARSE and Henry's father as SAMUEL PEARCE.

Based on census records Ann would have been born about 1817.  I have searched for baptismal records for Ann without success.

In Banwell marriages I find a William Harse, widower, servant, 30 Sep 1842 marrying a Mary Jane Jewell, under-age, spinster, servant.  His father is given as Samuel Pearce, laborer.  This is the only place I can find a connection between the two families.  Could Ann's father, a widower, be marrying for a second time with Ann's father-in-law standing for him in the place of his own father?

I would appreciate any clues or insights you can give me which might help me identify Ann's parents or the school she is said to have attended.
