Mary Pipe (1772?-1841) née Hembury?
published by on Tue, 24/05/2016 - 16:13

I would be extremely grateful if any member could confirm my research on Mary PIPE, mother of Christiana PIPE (1800-1832) who was my 3rd great grandmother on my mother's side.

Christiana was baptised at Hutton on 27 April 1800, her parents being Thomas and Mary PIPE.

Thomas PIPE (widower) married Mary FORD (widow) from Locking at Hutton on 14 Jan 1799 so she is undoubtedly Christiana's mother.

John FOORD married Mary HEMBURY in Locking on 9 Jun 1791 and a John FOORD was buried in Locking on 18 September 1793. It is a reasonable assumption that John FOORD's widow, Mary, is Christiana's mother given that she is a widow, from Locking, and named FOORD.

By a process of elimination the only Mary HEMBURY for whom I have found a trace locally (FreeReg) and who is of the right age etc was baptised on 22 March 1772 at Meare, her parents being Robert and Hannah HEMBURY.

Apart from my personal conviction I have no proof of the above connections and would welcome any input. Living abroad I am unable to do any legwork on the ground! Thanking you in advance.

Rescue home & P.A.C. HOSPITAL
published by on Sun, 15/05/2016 - 19:22
Hi,
I recently found out that during WW2 my mother entered a rescue home at Weston-super-Mare and was transferred to a P.A.C. hospital for her confinement.
Could anyone shed some light on this. Do they still exist and if so are there any records still available.
She was only a young girl in her mid to late teens so it would be great to find out why this happened.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Brynmelyn School
published by on Wed, 11/05/2016 - 19:22

Can any member help me with more information on Brynmelyn School in Weston-super-Mare? I have a letter my grandfather wrote to his parents in 1924 from that school but, not living in the area, I can't find anything about it at all on the internet and I'd like to know more about it.

Thank you, Simon

Somerset Record Office
published by on Thu, 21/04/2016 - 15:11

Hallo Members

I have recently joined Weston-s-Mare FHS but I do not live locally so have no experience of the Record Office in Taunton.  I have the reference numbers for two  plots featured on the 1839 Tithe Map for Winscombe and I would like a photocopy of that section of the map. I have been quoted £25 as a fee for 45 minutes research by the Record Office, although there is no research required.  This sounds rather a high price when the archivist has only to photocopy the relevant section.

I would appreciate the views of any members who regularly use the Record Office in Taunton.

Weston Mercury 1939 - Online?
published by on Tue, 12/04/2016 - 9:36

Hi,

I'm trying to find out if the Weston Mercury archives are now online through any of the online newspaper websites. My grandmother/grandfather were married 04th October 1939. I belive there was a wedding photo published which showed my grandfather's Royal Navy colleagues in line throwing their hats up in the air. I'd be keen to try to obtain a copy of this picture as the family owned photo has been lost in time. Alternatively, if anyone know how I can access original archive copies of the Mercury or microfiche copies I'd be most grateful.
