Francis PARKER was my 2*great grandfather. He was born in High Ham on 3 October 1827 and baptised there on 25 October 1827. He was the son of Samuel PARKER and his second wife Ann TYLEY (nee COOK) who were married in High Ham.
Apart from his baptismal record I can find no record of Francis until his marriage to Sarah Luffman BATT in Hewish on 15 July 1850. I am trying to establish:
1. When and why he left High Ham.
2. When he arrived in Hewish.
3. Where he was in the meantime and what he was doing.
There are a few facts which might be relevant:
1. His parents were not married until almost 5 years after his birth. His father was a widow at that time, but I have not yet established when his mother's first husband died.
2. His father died (in the Workhouse in High Ham) in January 1850 i.e. 6 months before Francis got married.
3. I do not know when his mother died.
Any thoughts or ideas (however speculative) would be appreciated.
I have a distant cousin, Thomas HERBERT, who was employed as a Milk Carrier in Weston, in 1881. He was lodging at 34, Meadow Street with a family called CARPENTER. Thomas was actually born in Guiting Power, Gloucestershire late in 1845.
Sadly, Thomas next appeared as a patient (Lunatic) at Gloucestershire County Asylum, Gloucester in 1891, and then in Somerset and Bath Asylum, Wells in 1901 and the one at Cotford near Taunton in 1911. He died in in the Cotford Asylum in May 1923, aged 77. On his Death Certificate, they cited the Meadow Street address in Weston.
I have two queries:
Firstly, I wonder if there is anywhere that I might discover if he came to notice in Weston before he was taken in to the Asylum, sometime in the 1880s?
And secondly, if his last home address was in Weston-super-Mare, might he have been taken there for burial, perhaps in the Milton Road Cemetery? None of his immediate family was alive when he died, and he was not buried back in Guiting Power.
I am tracing the history of my 3rd great grandfather.
the 1841 and 1851 census shows he was resident at Long Ashton Workhouse and was born in Bradford (on Tone), Somerset around 1783.
The only baptisms in Bradford on Tone with this name are with this name are on 15/02/1789 and 20/09/1807. There is a baptism at St Johns, Wellington on 19/10/1783. Which is likely to be the correct one?
I think he died in between 1851 and 1861 although I cannot find any trace. If he died in Long Ashton Workhouse, where would the death have been registered and where were residents buried?

I am researching my paternal family tree and have got back as far as Thomas Moore born 1741 in Burnham on sea.
He married Anne Yeomans and as far as I can see had a son also called Thomas born 1764.
I'm afraid though that I have hit a huge wall now and would welcome any help from anyone please!
many thanks Dave Moore.
I have been researching the POPE family of Wraxall for some time and have been unable to find any reference to Charles POPE other than his marriage to Sarah RUSSEL in Nailsea 1798 which references his birth place as Wraxall.
Any help or indications of where to look to find information on his registration of birth or parents etc. would be very much appreciated.
Unfortunately a visit to the area is not an option at this present time.
