Thanks, Graham:  I really appreciate the hard work that members of this society do in making these records available online.  It makes understanding  our families so much more possible.

I'm struggling a bit with John Barnabas Young Snr's birth in Kingston Seymour and in identifying his parents.  I've got a working propositiong that he is the Barnot Young whose baptism is recorded on 03-Oct 1790 as son of Samuel & Alice, who were married earlier that year in Kingston Seymour.on 13 February.

Interestingly, Samuel seems to have either died (there's a burial of a Samuel in Yatton Burial D/P yat 2/1/3 Samuel Young 07-May 1791) or moved away. Ancestry have a record of a Samuel Young from Somerset being transported in 1796 following conviction for larceny... IN any event, Alice remarries in 1799 (08-Sep James BANWELL Kingston Seymour Alice YOUNG widow Kingston Seymour).  So Barnot is the only Young child in the family, which if that is him, could explain him moving away for work.

I've considered some other YOUNG possibilities:

None of the many children of George and Hannah Young, also in KS at that time seem to fit the bill.  And most of their children seem to have died in infancy.  It's a tragic record.

In the Yatton records, D/P yat 2/1/2 102 309 21-Jun 1790 George Young Kenn B marries 16,23,30 D/P yat 2/1/2 Nancy Hookey Kenn.  They have a number of children in the right time period but with no name resembling John Barnabas.

More interesting perhaps are two other Yatton couples:

Barnabas Young and Sexa/Sexy (died 1798 and 1808  respectively) who had two children recorded in the right time frame:  Baptism D/P yat 2/1/3 12-Dec 1792 Samuel YOUNG son Barnabus & Sexey  Yatton;  and D/P AX 2/1/4 1795 12-Sep Solomon Young son Barnet & Sexa Yatton Axbridge But no John Barnabas.

Then there's Barnabas and Mary who also have children in the right sort of time.  Could this be John Barnabas:  Baptism D/P yat 2/1/3 29-Jun 1800 John YOUNG son Barnabus & Mary (Axbridge).  His age fluctuates wildly in the censuses...

Finally, also in Kingston Seymour but with no issue I have spotted yet, are the 1790 newlyweds, 27-Apr John YOUNG Yatton m Mary PARSONS Kingston Seymour.  Right time frame, but no children...

So I still think Barnot is the best bet, though one of the John Youngs might also be possible.  have I missed something?  Are there other possibilities?  If there's a fresh pair of eyes out there. I'd appreciate them!

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward with anticipation to St George's 1813-1835!

best regards

Jayne
