Hi

I have Fry connections in Somerset - my 3rd great-grandfather is John Starkey Fry born in 1824 in Weston-super-Mare to John Fry & Harriet Starkey.

I have found a marriage record for John Starkey Fry in Axbridge, Somerset 1851 but it doesn't say who he married.

I have also found a record for a Martha Elizabeth Fry, child of John Starkey Fry & Mary Elizabeth Emmett.

However I find no record of a Mary Elizabeth Emmett and am slowly working my way through all the Mary Emmett's born in England to see if I can find her.

I don't have a Cordelia Fry on my tree but my tree does have a lot of gaps. I am not sure what you mean by "Somerset Levels Fry" families. I shall do some research as that may help fill in some of the gaps.

FreeBMD certainly suggests that John Starkey FRY married Mary Elizabeth EMETT - same year & qrt and same reference number.

Marriages Sep 1851
EMETT  Mary Elizabeth    Axbridge  10   448A
FRY  John Starkey            Axbridge  10   448A

Don't forget that the Axbridge Registration District covered 38 different parishes.

There are two children born to this couple who were christened at Uphill - see our transcriptions.

The name EMMETT or EMETT was common in the Bristol area and a Mary Elizabeth EMETT was christened 30th Aug 1819 at Mangotsfield d/o Charles & Mary - from transcriptions available from Bristol & Avon FHS on CD or as a download.  You would need to check that she didn't die young.

Thanks for the break in the wall! I had started to look at the different parish areas and had just discovered what a large area "Axbridge" covered! I had assumed it was a town. I hadn't yet looked a different spellings of Emett - I am off again....

i won't be able to help as I haven't done any research but I have an Irene Emment Fry in my tree, daughter of Matilda Harden and Henry Emment Oscar Fry.  I am related through Matilda.
