If anyone knows of this lady, who worked as a cleaner in a care home in WSM between 1970-1980.
There was a resident in the home with the same name.
Florrie had a brother called Ernest who was in the RAF.
Ernest was my Uncle.
I am desperate to find Florries date of death, to determine her date of birth. I need to order her birth certificate to confirm her parents, as Ernest gave a false date of birth rendering me unable to confirm his parents.
I have a picture of Ernest, if anyone should see a resemblance.
Florrie never married or had children.

Hi. I don't know the lady but I'm intrigued by your enquiry and would like to try to help, if I can.

As a starter can you provide any additional information eg

1. What was Florrie's full name?

2. Have you any idea where she was born?

3. How do you know that she worked in a Care Home in Weston?

4. Do you know if she was living in Weston when she died?

5. What was Ernest's full name?

6. What date and place of birth did he give when he joined the RAF? And what was his enlistment date?

7. Did Ernest marry? If so, do you know when, where and to whom?

8. How exactly are you related to Ernest? You say he was your Uncle but can you be more specific, please?

9. Do you know when and where Ernest died?

10. Do you know if Florrie and Ernest had any other siblings? If so, what do you know about them?

Dear Dave

Thank you so much for offering to help solve this mystery. Last year for my Cousin Roy's 70th birthday, I thought I would try to trace his Father Ernest's side of the family. I knew of his Mothers side, as we share that line, but his Dad's would have been very interesting. This is where things started to unfold for the worst. I looked on FreeBMD and could not see his birth. I then contacted two Councils in Nottingham, his given place of birth and they have never heard of him either. I then tried to search for his Father Albert Bown Perry, using his full name as given on Ernest's wedding certificate, but he too could not be found.

I felt awful telling Roy that it looks like his Father lied about his d.o.b. We thought maybe he did this to get into the RAF. But if he did, surely we should be able to find him at a later date in Nottingham, but there's nothing. I have seen his papers in the RAF, he had a very important role and was commended for it. Not happy to give up there, I changed shift and this is what brings me to WSM.

Ernest we know had a sister Florrie, as Roy visited her a few times in WSM before loosing touch with her. Her letters stopped coming about 15 years ago, so he assumed she had died. She never married and from what she told him, Ernest was her only other sibling, slightly older than her. She was a cleaner and thought how funny it was that in this Care Home was another lady with the same name, this is how I know there is two of them. I could not trace Florrie in Nottingham either. Our big question was, why did Florrie who had never married end up in WSM? Ernest married in Nottingham but went on to live in Northfleet, where my family comes from. Florrie's address was;

Miss Florrie Perry
43 Alexandra House
Lonsdale Avenue
WSM

Florrie never wrote her postcode on any of her letters and from what Roy said about when he met her, she seemed to be a little bit backward. I have answers for your questions as follows.

1. We believe she was born Florence, but known as Florrie or Flo Perry.
2. Nottingham.
3. Roy visited the Care Home where she worked looking for her and found her there. He was actually taken to another Florrie Perry in a bed at first, but it was the cleaner also called Florrie, he is related to and saw her in her uniform.
4. We are assuming she is dead as the letters stopped coming on a regular basis, that was 15 years ago.
5. HIS FULL NAME : Ernest William Perry
6. 19/10/1918, 5 St Ann's Hill Road, Nottingham. This is the address Ernest gave to the RAF and we have seen this on his entry papers. I will have to come back with the date as my cousin is staying with me at the moment, not going back home until Monday.
7. He married Violet May Ring, in Nottingham on 6th June 1945. But went on to live in Northfleet with the rest of our family. Violet and my Mother are sisters.
8. Ernest was my Uncle, my Mothers - Sisters Husband.
9. He died Q2 1960 age 41 under district Dartford 5b page 361
10. No other siblings we are aware of.

Thank you for any help in getting to the bottom of this mystery Dave. Roy has serious health conditions and if I can sort this before he gets to ill, it would mean so much to me.

While we were in the Library this afternoon several volunteers looked through the Street Directories and Electoral Rolls for your relative.  They did find a death of a Florence PERRY registered in the Weston-super-Mare District in the 2nd quarter of 1994 with her date of birth given as 15th September 1921.   A Florence PERRY born 15th September 1921 is described on the 1939 Register as "incapacitated" and living in a Home for People with Learning Difficulties in Aston Hall, Aston on Trent.  This does seem to fit with what you have been told about her.

The address you gave for her is a block of flats in Weston but we couldn't find any mention of her amongst the electoral roll but perhaps she was never registered.

We found a birth of Florence E PERRY registered in the 4th quarter of 1921 in Nottingham with a mother's maiden name of SIMONS.    We haven't yet found a marriage of a PERRY with a SIMONS.  Florence appears to have had two brothers - Richard born in 1918 and Edward born in 1920.  but I wonder whether either of them decided to change his name to Ernest?  A lot more queries to solve!!

Dear Pat and the many other people who helped out.

I cannot thank you all enough for finding This. Changing a name would explain everything. Bless you all, you have made my day. One last request, do you know where Florrie is laid to rest please?
Thank you very much xx

This is quite a difficult one as nothing seems to be clear.

I found an Ernest W Perry in the 1939 Register living at 119 Colwick Road, Nottingham, single and living with other non related people.  He gives his date of birth as 25.2.1916 and the birth index has an Ernest W Perry registered 2nd quarter 1915 with mother's maiden name of Corah.  Looking at other births for a Perry/Corah parentage, there are 11 males and one female registered in Mansfield.  There is a family with Horace born 1895 who married a Florence Corah in Mansfield in 1913 and he had a brother Albert born c 1893.  Could this be Ernest's father or is it another family altogether.

I could find no 1939 entry for Richard or Edward Perry in the Nottingham area either.

Perhaps there was a 2nd marriage for Ernest and Florrie's mother which has made it all impossible to sort out.

Best of luck with it.

Elizabeth
