The 1851 census of Hutton gives Richard's place of birth as South Barrow in about 1803 and I'm not sure whether you have this by now but it looks as if he was the son of the Richard SLADE who married Jenny COLLEY 16th June 1788 at South Barrow, Somerset, by licence. She was from Castle Cary. You can find this marriage on FreeREG and it also gives the names of Witnesses.

Has anyone any information on the Slade or Porter families of Hutton? Richard Slade is listed as a sawyer in 1841 census and a butcher in 1851. Are there any earlier records of Slades in the area? Richard Slade's son Edward married Amelia Porter in 1862. Amelia was the daughter of John Porter, a mason.

I moved into Hutton couple of years ago. Mr T Porter lives in the village and plays an active part here and about North Somerset. Just a thought, could he help if you were to speak to him?

Edward Slade and Amelia Porter were my great-great grandparents. They had 21 (?) children and lived in Lympsham for many years. One of their sons, Francis, was my great grandfather. He and his wife, Florence, and their three children Hutton, Edna and Zena came to the US in 1912. I have more information that may be of help!
