Thomas Drake Generation No. 5 8. BAMFIELD8 DRAKE (JOSEPH7, FRANCIS6, THOMAS5, EDMUND4, JOHN3, JOHN2, JOHN1) (Source: (1) The Visitations of the County of Devon, 304., (2) Historical Southern Families Vol. VII.) was born April 12, 1670, and died June 20, 1729 in Buried at Farway, Devon, England. He married (1) KATHERINE STONE born 1675 died 1728. Married in Wellington Somerset 16 March 1694. Notes for BAMFIELD DRAKE: Bamfield served as Rector of Farway in Devon. More About BAMFIELD DRAKE: Baptism: April 12, 1670, Buckland Monachorum Ordination: 1700, Became Rector at Farway, Devon, England Children of BAMFIELD DRAKE and REBECCA HANBY are: 11. i. FRANCIS9 DRAKE, b. August 21, 1701, England; d. 1763. ii. JOAN DRAKE - [Possibly married George Washer in Berrow, Somerset c.1700 owned 13 acres at Berrow]. iii. ELEANOR DRAKE. iv. CATHERINE DRAKE. v. JOSEPH DRAKE, b. August 11, 1694. Notes for JOSEPH DRAKE: Joseph (Joan's brother) came to North Carolina USA in 1733 with his brothers, Francis and Bamfield. He and Bamfield were scalped by Indians shortly after arrival. Francis and Mary's 8 year old son James Drake was kidnapped by Indians in 1733 but his family paid a large ransom and he was released. vi. BAMPFIELD DRAKE, b. October 23, 1704. Notes for BAMPFIELD DRAKE: Bamfield Drake accompanied his brother, Francis, to North Carolina USA in 1733. He was captured and killed by Indians. 12. vii. WILLIAM DRAKE, b.
