Would it be possible to check the following transcript, please:

Book 17 22 8296
Eliza SMART widow 75
Place of death: 4 Bridge Terrace Drove Road
Weston super Mare
Date of burial: 28 Sep 1901
H S Chamberlain
Tc 4473

I think it might actually relate to Ann SMART (nee FORD) who died in Weston in 1901. She was a widow aged 75 and lived at 13 Bridge Terrace.

Pat (Hase): I think you might have researched the burial of Ann SMART for my wife's cousin a while ago.

The 1901 census shows Ann Smart at no. 13 as you state and at no. 4 it is George Hurford and his wife Emma, no Eliza Smart.  That may have changed in the 6 months between the census and the burial but there is no GRO record for Eliza, just Anne.

Thank you. That confirms my own research, which is always helpful.

The Weston Gazette 28 Sep 1901

This would confirm Ann rather than Eliza as Dave and Les have stated

Thank you. That confirms the death information. But the burial transcription does not tally. I'm trying to find out whether it is, indeed, a transcription error or whether it is a faithful transcription of the original record.

I have checked this transcript against a photo copy of the original book and the name is records as Eliza SMART.

Thanks, Graham. So, the transcription is definitely correct. But I'm still not sure the original record is. Proving it will be another matter, of course. I will obtain the death certificate for Ann SMART to see if that sheds any light on the matter.
