Grave for Col. Frederick John Theodore DURIE
published by Clare Hayward on Mon, 23/01/2023 - 12:33

I was looking at St Andrew's Church, Thorn Coffin, Nr Yeovil and came across a grave for Col. Frederick John Theodore DURIE.

He was a Colonel in the Royal Artillary, born 15/2/1920 and died 05/10/2012 and he appears to have a residence in Mileham, Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

I can find very little information about this man but I was wondering why he was buried in the village of Thorn Coffin.  Does anyone know who he was and what his connection with the village was?

Thank you Clare Hayward (1258)

I think you will find that Frederick John Theodore DURIE married Denise Delores CORY in 1941.  She died in 1981 and is also buried in Thorn Coffin's Churchyard.  She is described as "the only daughter of Col & Mrs H C CORY of Monewden Hall, Suffolk, wife of Col F J T  DURIE and mother of Anthony, Lucinda and Caroline".

Her probate gives an address :   DURIE: Denise Dolores of Brooke House, Thorne, Yeovil Som died 27 April 1981  - which probably explains why he was buried there as well.
