Sarah IRVINE - 3rd G/Grandmother
published by on Sun, 12/04/2020 - 22:13

Evening everyone,

I hope you lovely people can assist me in tracing my 3rd Great Grandmother Sarah IRVINE. I have no DOB or Death date although I know she married James Edward BROWN on 14th August 1865 St John's Wood.

Sarah had a daughter Annie BROWN on 24th Nov 1865, Middlesex.

Sarah's father as per the marriage banns William IRVINE.

Any help would be appreciated.

Was your James Edward BROWN born in Frome, Somerset? Did they also have children James c1868 and William c1871? If so, then at the time of the 1871 census the family was living in Charles Street, St Pancras, London. Her age was given as 26 and her place of birth as Glasgow, Scotland. At the time of the 1881 census there were 2 more children: Amelia c1876 and John c1879. The family was living in Boundary Mews, St Johns Hampstead, London. Sarah's age was given as 34 and the place of birth as Belfast, Ireland.

Welcome to the Society Louisa! - hopefully we shall see you at meetings when this is all over.  In the meantime, Glad to see that you are getting help both on this web site and from the Facebook Group!  As Dave said, Sarah didn't seen to know where she came from but it does settle with Belfast which will be difficult to follow up.  Have you found any of the BROWN family in 1901 yet?  You might find Sarah's death by following up her children.

James Edward BROWN was born in Mells in Somerset in 1847 and was christened there 16 May 1847 s/o James & Ann BROWN.  You can find this and the marriage of his parents James BROWN and Ann HORLER in Mells by using FreeREG.  They seem to have moved to London around 1850.  James Edward is with his grandparents in Mells in 1851 while his parents and the rest of his siblings are already in St Pancras.
