Location of South Brent? published by on Fri, 25/05/2012 - 9:26
I'm researching my wife's side of the tree and have found a lot of links to South Brent in Somerset. They appear to be near Axbridge and Worle etc but the only South Brent I can find is in Devon. Could someone enlighten me with the location of the Somerset South Brent please?
You are not the only one to be confused by this. South Brent is now known as Brent Knoll. Its name was changed to avoid confusion with the Devon South Brent! It can be found due south of Weston-super-Mare just inland from Burnham on Sea and takes its name from the distinctive hill of the same name. To find out more about the village take a look at the Brent Knoll Village web site
What surname are you researching in South Brent/Brent Knoll? You will see that transcriptions of the parish registers for this parish are included on this site.
I'm searching for Came, Binding, Badcock and Culliford relations for the area. I've looked through the Parish Registers and have found some but my home internet is off for a week or so, so I can only catch quick looks at work for now!
South Brent is now called Brent Knoll. Its name was changed between 1875 and 1883 to avoid confusion with the other South Brent in Devon after the arrival of the Bristol to Exeter railway.
