Elizabeth COLESERRY
published by Pat Hase on Sun, 02/06/2019 - 10:14

My husband's 5 x great grandparents were John CAVIL and Elizabeth COLESERRY who were married at Over Stowey, Somerset on the 13th May 1746 with John CAVIL said to come from Spaxton and Elizabeth COLESERRY of Over Stowey.  I have found this christening of an Elizabeth COLSERY [sic] in 1723 in Over Stowey but need help in deciphering exactly what it says.

What is on the next line?  Who was buried the following day?  Thank you.

Pat:

Unfortunately the last line is only partly visible. Can you re-post it please?

I hace COLESORTHY/COLSERY in my tree. Nicolas COLESWORTHY was my 10xGGF. He married Joan BRODBEER in Pitminster in 1605. Possible link?

If you then add the next line it is very confusing.  I'm trying to ensure that this Elizabeth wasn't buried the following day - as that would mess up my tree!!  What do you think?

Do you think it could have been an Alse (?) Withers buried on the 19th May?  In which case I can stop worrying that Elizabeth might have died soon after birth.

Pat

I agree with you, it reads “Alse Withers was buryed the 19th of May”

On reflection, I also agree. I have looked on FreeReg and Findmypast for a confirmatory transcription, but without success.

Many thanks to both you and Graham - I'm really grateful.  It just goes to show how discussion can help solve a problem.  Will now try to get back beyond Elizabeth and perhaps meet up with your Nicolas COLESWORTHY in Pitminster - that's only about 15 miles from Over Stowey.
