Records for family on Grove Park war memorial
published by on Sun, 04/11/2018 - 19:35
I wondered if anyone could help. I have two great uncles named on the Grove Park war memorial (Alec Baker and Leonard Baker), and I wondered how I could find out more about them, how/when they died etc. My nan would never talk about it (they were her brothers), so nothing is really known about them. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, There are some Baker Families from Banwell who might help you. You could look on social media. Also Forces War records on their website. Or Kew Gardens London.
It might be the case at the moment that names of People serving in the those wars are not released yet until the last surviving one has passed. Out of respect to the Families which I agree with. I have hit a brick wall finding about my Late Father he was in the 8th Army WW2 they disbanded. He was a prisoner of war in Stalag 1, I think. He did not talk about the war either.

Hi Margaret

Are you aware that at the end of WW2 all POW’s were required to complete a questionnaire giving details of their capture and details of all the camps they were held in. They were always held in more than one camp usually transit camps en route to their destination. They were also asked to give details of any escape attempts and acts of sabotage.

These forms are available at the National Archives at Kew.
