Harriet Jarvis
published by Les Martels on Sun, 30/09/2018 - 15:12

Can anyone find me the burial date for Harriet Jarvis who died the 4th quarter of 1873 please.

She lived in South Brent (Brent Knoll) at the time of  her death.

Hopefully, the South Brent registers will  be updated to 1918 soon as I have quite a few bmd's to fulfil.  (If you need help, very happy to do so)

I did some work on this 2 weeks ago & gave the findings to Roy Smith to post so I take it he has added what I was able to find

All the very best

Hi Phil,

That sounds as though it might be useful to me but I  have not been able to find anything new since posting my original enquiry.

How can I get in touch with Roy Smith to find out what you have passed on to him.

I am intrigued to know what you have found.  Maybe you could inform me directly.

Best wishes,

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth
I was unable to find the death date for Harriet but I have put a request on a site I belong to asking if anyone is planning to go to Somerset record office & if so will they do a look up of Harriet's burial for me.

I started the look up by going to free bmd to get all the details which you would already have.

then just for a laugh looked at Ancestry members trees & surprisingly one on there seems very well researched - the Puddy Tree South & East Brent/Brent Knoll but I did a bit of checking up on it.

1851 ceusus South Brent
George W. Jervis H M 48 Farmer South Brent
Harriet " W M 48 Weare
William " S U 22 South Brent
Henry " S U 17 " "
Edwin " S 14 " "
Charles " S 12 " "
Edmund " S 10 " "
Ann " D 8 scholar " "
Joanna " mother M 70 Mark

I then looked at the 1881 census to double check that George would be a widdower by this time & sure enough he was
1881 census South Brent
George W Jarvis H Wr 78 Farmer 48 acres South Brent
Edmond " S U 40 Farmer 31 acres " "
Emily " grandaur U 16 " "
Fanny Stitch dairy woman U 25 DOM serv Lympsham
John Cook serv U 16 Ag serv South Brent.

I hope that some of this may be of help & if I were you Id have a look at th public members tree I refer'd you to as that may help. I also hope that Im able to send you the burial date for Harriet if I get a reply to the request I made for a look up.

With all my very best wishes

Hi Phil,

Thank you for going to the trouble to look all that information up for me, much appreciated.  As you may guess, I already have researched the family pretty thoroughly and am just trying to fill in the last bits of data that might be freely available.

It is much appreciated also if you can get the date from the actual register as then I will know it is correct.  Thr trouble with taking info from Ancestry trees is the accuracy of it as I know so much of the information there is rubbish even down to the death of my own mother.  I have been familiar with the Puddy tree in the past, so maybe I will contact the owner again and ask the question.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Elizabeth

Please don't think that I was saying all on that Ancestry tree was gospel as I know from my own research that some people just link to other trees without bothering to research them properly from source & just perpetuate any errors that have been made on the tree that they have downloaded. I just look at these trees for a bit of fun to see how many holes I can pick in them & have found a lot. The reason I recommended this tree to you was because I know a lady who has researched the name Puddy & she is a fantastic researcher who sources all that she possibly can but I don't know if this is her own tree.

All the very best
