Varman Family of Weston Super Mare
published by on Sat, 06/01/2018 - 22:55
Hi,
I am researching the Varman Family. Edmund Varman b.abt 1604 married Charity maiden name unknown. They married abt 1629. There is a baptism for their son Henry Varman bpt.16 Jan 1635 at St Johns, Weston Super Mare. (Bapt. found on FMPast)
I a looking to see if this couple had anymore children. And if there are any marriage records available for this time period. I also found on FMPast a burial record that might be of Edmund Varman on 19 Nov 1637 at St. Johns. I am unsure if this is for the father Edmund or a possible child of Edmund and Charity Varman.

The above Henry Varman married Elizabeth Gilling( of Berrow) in Somerset abt 1655. The supposed parents of Elizabeth Gilling are Bartholomew and Alice Gilling. Henry and Elizabeth Gilling Varman had their first child Alice born abt 1656 in Weston Super Mare.

This Henry moved to Ireland abt 1657-58 and eventually joined the Quaker religion. It is in the Quaker records that the above family information was recorded. I am trying to go back further and would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,
Megan

You probably noticed that the VARMAN baptism on FmP was taken from Bishops Transcripts.  We do not have access to any BTs and I suggest that you contact the Somerset Heritage Trust in Taunton to see it they can help - there are contact details on that page.  Some years ago I found some BTs for Weston-super-Mare, St Johns filed under Weston, Bath but they were not as early as the ones you are interested in and are included in our transcriptions for full members.

HI Pat,
Thank you so much for the information. I will try the Somerset Trust and see if they may have some more info.
Thank you again,
Megan
