George and Gladys Bryant Nailsea/WSM
published by on Fri, 14/10/2016 - 13:54
Dear All,

You have been kind enough to help me in the past and I wondered if you could do it again please. I have been researching my grandparents George and Gladys Bryant who lived in 5 East End Terrace Nailsea in 1939. George Bryant was born in about 1880 and died in 1945 in Weston Super Mare. In 1928, he married Gladys may Hooper.

I have brought a marriage certificate and I have further detail on George, including he was a widower and around 24 years older than Gladys when he married. Further his father was George Bryant had passed away before his son married, however other than that I am stuck again.

I have tried ancestry searches and I was going to order a birth certificate however I don't know George's mothers name or where he was born.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

a very frustrated family ancestry searcher,

thank you,

Julie

Hi Julie

According to the index entry of his death certificate on FreeBMD, his middle initial was H & he was 63 when he died in 1945, which puts his birth year around 1882. Do you know if he moved around at all? Again on FreeBMD I found three George H Bryants born in Somerset around the right time period, one in Bridgwater & two in Keynsham. I found this 1891 Census entry, I wouldn't know if this is the right person though

It looks like there was a

The most recent census data out there is for 1911 which makes it trickier. Regardless, you probably know more about this than I do, as I only had a quick look.

I also found that he had two daughters with Gladys, Margery & Stella both registered in Long Ashton but being his granddaughter you must have already know that.

Hello, Findmypast have 1939 register. Gives George born31/Aug/1880. Lives 5East End terrace, Long Ashton, with Gladys, born 1/Apr/1904, and (I assume) her father Frederick Hooper, born3/Jan/1876. Two records are still closed until proof of death is provided. On Ancestry, a family tree for this family has the name O'Rourke-Ludlow, being researched by mrs Ludlow. Worth a try? Good luck, Sylvia
