I am researching POPE from Backwell, Somerset at St Andrews Church. I found a gap in the records from 1720 to 1754. I have a John POPE that was married in Backwell to Elizabeth Potter in 1762 but I can not find his birth date due to the missing thirty-four years. I would think that he was born around 1740.
I am also trying to find out who his parents were as I have POPE's from before 1720 and I am trying to find the connection.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm not sure where you were looking to find a gap in the Backwell Baptisms - On our site, accessible to full members, there is no gap in the baptisms. There are POPE baptisms there during that period.
Of course it is possible that your John POPE was a non-conformist so there will be no Cof E Baptism for him although he would have had to get married in a C of E Church at that time.
Although he said he was of Backwell when he got married he might have only recently moved there. Try surrounding parishes or even Bristol for baptisms. Did they continue to live in Backwell? What was his occupation? Where did he die? Was an age given at death? Lots of questions but hope you find him.
To answer you questions. I think that he was born outside of Backwell but there are a few John POPE's baptised in Somerset around the time of his birth. I do not know who his parents are.
He did continue to live in Backwell and there was a John POPE who died in 1780 but there is no age. My ancestors lived in Backwell until Samuel POPE, born 1830(who is my Gr Grandfather)moved to Bedminster. I do not know what John POPE did for a living.
Without his parents names or where he was born, I can not be sure where he was born.
