I believe my grandmother's maiden name was Cable. First name was Hannah. Dorset was the town she was from. Her and Dennis Stanley Clark married in 1942.

We will try to help you but if anyone knows of any living relations please do not post information on the Forum but reply directly to dmclark by clicking on her name and then using the contact button.

There was a Dennis S CLARK listed as living at 24 Stonebridge Road in 1949 - 1952 (the only directories I have at home)  He was not listed in 1956 anywhere in Weston so may have moved elsewhere before emigrating to Canada.

By using FreeBMD I can see that three children were born in Weston with the surname CLARK and mother's maiden name CABLE - You mentioned Anthony (1943) and Denise (1948) but there was also a John T CLARK birth registered in 1946 - do you know anything about him?

Do you know when Dennis Stanley CLARK was born? - there are two possible births in Weston on FreeBMD one in 1921 with a mother's maiden name of SHALLISH (mistranscribed as SHALLIDE) and one in 1925 with a mother's maiden name of SPILLER.  If we can find his father's name we might be able to trace some relations for you.

Dorset is a County not a Town so that widens the search for Hannah CABLE - Do you know when she was born?

Thank you very much Pat. I truly appreciate your help.

I would guess he was born in 1921, therefore to Shallish family maiden name. Yes, I do know about the 2nd son John Clark.

I will try to get his fathers' name.

I think he was actually born in 1925.

I think his mother's name was Spiller and I think Hannah Clarks' maiden name was Bailey.

I'm finding a lot of info. She was born in Axbridge and her parents were Hannah Bailey and Walter Cable. Married in 1922.

Sincerely
Debbie

I'm glad you are making progress but if Dennis Stanley CLARK as born in 1925 he was only about 17 when he married in 1942 - quite possible of course; but perhaps someone in your family knows when he was born?

Your great grandfather Walter CABLE proves to be very interesting. On the 1911 census he is living with his first wife in Laura Buildings Weston-super-Mare. See one of our Journal articles about Laura Buildings to find out more about this part of Weston. Walter CABLE's first wife (Beatrice Lillian HILL known as Lily) died in 1921 after which he married Hannah BAILEY, accounting for the gap in their ages. Walter CABLE became a Boot and Shoe repairer working in Union Street which backed on to Laura Buildings.

When posting a comment can you make the title relevant to the content with perhaps the surname you are researching (in UPPER CASE to make it stand out), the place or the resource you are enquiring about in the Subject Heading? It makes searching the archives for useful information easier if you do this. Thanks.

As it has been established that this family travelled to Canada in 1956 we now know that they were descended from Alfred CLARK and Gladys SPILLER who were married in 1914 and according to FreeBMD had at least 10 or 11 children including Dennis Stanley CLARK who was born in 1925.

If anyone does know of any living relations I am sure that Debbie Clark would be delighted to hear from you.

Yes, I also thought that was young.  But my Dad was born in 1943.  So... quite possibly.

Thank you once again.
