Hi,
my name is Mieczyslaw Abramowicz, I'm a historian and writer from Danzig/Poland. Now I'm writing a book on the certain people who once died in Danzig. Among my heroes is an English sailor, James Edward Glover, who died in an accident in Danzig in September 4, 1905. He served in HMS Russell. He was born July 9, 1870 in Weston-super-Mare.
I am looking for any information on James Edward Glover and his family. Maybe some of his family lives. Maybe there are some documents of James Edward Glover, some photos, anything.
I’m not sure that his date of birth is correct. On freeBMD the nearest birth entry is this

On the 1871 census of Weston-super-Mare is a 1 year old James GLOVER as the son of John & Harriet GLOVER living in Alfred Street – which is in the parish of Christchurch – and John is a waterman. It looks as if he was possibly born on the 9th of July 1869 and registered and christened as Edward James he was known in the family as James.
He was married as James Edward GLOVER, a seaman, on the 28th Jan 1894 to Rosina Caroline SAUNDERS at the parish church of East Stonehouse, Plymouth. By 1901 he is described as James E GLOVER, a Boatswain in the Royal Navy and he is living with Rosina, his wife, in Devonport.
I was intrigued to find a reference on FreeBMD to a marriage in the Devonport district during the Dec Qrt of 1905 of a Rosina Caroline GLOVER to either an Edward GLOVER or a Frederick George WATTS. Could this be his widow? Strangely there is another marriage in 1926 of a Rosalind C GLOVER to an Edward GLOVER - is this just a coincidence?
On the 1911 census Rosalind Caroline GLOVER says she is married (not a widow) but she has a 5 year old daughter, Violet. There’s a lot more research which could be done to see whether Violet might be a daughter of your man or not.
James GLOVER the subject of the above query had an interesting family!
His father, John Howard GLOVER was illegitimate, and his mother, Ann GLOVER later married a WOOKEY.
Ann GLOVER was also illegitimate and her mother, Martha GLOVER later married a TREGO.
These names seem to be interchangeable!!
John Howard GLOVER married Harriet KING 26 April 1866 in St John's Church, Bedminster, Bristol.

Edward GLOVER - so they had another Edward!

On the 1881 census John Howard GLOVER has adopted his mother's husband's name of WOOKEY - so he and his family appear as WOOKEY including your James who is entered as James WOOKEY. John Howard GLOVER died in 1904 but there could well be descendents from James's siblings in the area - can anyone help with these families?
The names GLOVER, WOOKEY and TREGO all get mentioned so does TRAPNELL if you go back a little further!
I too am researching my Trego family and found Martha Glover married a Trego. There has always been a mystery over the details of Martha, John etc. never did get to the bottom of it all as my Grandmother, Doris Trego nee Mapstone always said there were 'two Trego families in Weston, the other being Trego-Jones?' I decend from John Trego and William Trego and I found reference to a William Trego-Jones? who we believed was the son of Martha Glover who took over the Trego name? Would LOVE any help with my reserch! Thanks
