To answer your first question - yes, and there are transcriptions on this site.
It might be worth your while to look at the Wraxall Parish Records as well - also on this site. It's a neighbouring parish and there are YOUNG baptisms around the time you are seeking.
When Sarah married James EVANS there were two YOUNG witnesses - William YOUNG and Mary YOUNG who might be parents but could be siblings. I noticed that this marriage was by licence. It is possible that she was quite young (and possibly pregnant). The 1851 census suggests that she was born in 1800 but I agree that on other censuses her birth date is earlier.
Thank you Pat for your suggestions, I have looked around at other Parish Records, what I was really asking is are there any Nailsea Parish Baptisms covering 1790. But I shall take another look at the other Parish records again.
I think that Sarah was born abt 1790, her age on her death is given as 72 in 1862, 1861 - 70, and in 1851 I think perhaps the ages of Jacob and Sarah were wrongly recorded, Jacob was born 1799 and so should have been 51. In 1841 Sarah was recorded as 50, and even though I know that ages were sometimes rounded up I guess this was about right.
I wonder if the Sarah baptised 1801(parents Thomas and Elizabeth) in Wraxall was the same who married Richard Cannington in 1823 in Wraxall.
I am beginning to think this a mystery I will not solve in a while.
This same Thomas and Elizabeth Young also had a son George born abt 1807 who married Louisa Purnell. George died and Louisa married another of my cousins Charles Harding. Charles and Louisa lived in "Late Youngs Property", which didn't quite make sense until I realised that Louisa had been married before. I can't find a marriage for Louisa and Charles. I have found from a local history journal of Backwell, Nailsea, Tickenham and Wraxall, that "Mr Harding went to Australia..." As I can't find any census records for Charles and family after 1851, I am beginning to think this is correct, the sad thing is that I can't find anything in the online Australian records, nor can I find anyone doing any family history for Charles or Louisa. And I would love to know why they went and where they lived.
Having access to these parish records has thrown up so many questions. And, many centre around the Young family.
My 3xgreat grandmother was Sarah Young (about 1810-1875) born in Kenn. I can find no baptism record for her. She married Frederick Parsons in St John the Baptist Church, Bristol in 1828. Frederick Parsons was from Kingston Seymour. Did they marry in Bristol because she was underage I wonder.
