Hill End, Banwell.
published by on Thu, 30/05/2013 - 16:29

My Grandmother, Grandfather, Uncle and Aunty lived in Nissan huts at a place called Hillend on the outskirts of Banwell, my father and me moved in in about 1953.

The site is now a field and used to be near the aerojet factory which has also now gone to a housing estate. I have located it on google maps and identified the Bus Stop that my Gran used to use on going shopping in Weston.

My query is, has anybody got any photo,s or any stories from Hillend, the whole family was re-housed in Langford in the middle to late 1950's, our hut was situated right at the top of the site.

Any help would be great as I am trying to get my history together for my Grand Children.

Thanks, Brian Baker.

Believe during WW2 these huts were an Italian prisoner of war camp.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I thank you for your snippet of info about Hillend Nissan Huts, which has shocked me a little as the AeroSpace factory was so close, that is if it was in production during WW2.

When I lived in the Nissan Huts my Grandfather was the gardener at AeroSpace.

Any further info would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am a freelance journalist with an interest in WW2 living in Weston. I heard about the Banwell PoW camp through a conversation I overheard at the Helicopter Museum. I would like to find out more about it, so has anyone got any further information about this?
