Sally Herbert, photo, Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England published by MDianeRogers on Mon, 29/04/2013 - 5:24
I've posted a stray photo on my site. It's identified in ink as "Sally Herbert" and was taken by Sydney Smyth of Waterloo Street, in Weston Super Mare, Somerset. Happy to share a copy.
Thank you for drawing our attention to this photograph. I can find Sydney SMYTH as a photographer on the 1881 census living in Langton Grove Road which is just off the end of Waterloo Street in Weston-super-Mare.
There is a burial of a Sydney SMYTH in Weston Cemetery 26th May 1888, aged 67 which might be him. I'm not sure what happened to his wife and son (who was also a Photographer)
Sally HERBERT is even more elusive. As it was a custom for holiday makers to have their photograph taken at the resort she could have come from anywhere. She doesn't look very young so HERBERT might have been her maiden name and Sally an abreviation of Sarah.
Where is you find the photograph - could there be any additional clues to be uncovered?
