Margaret Anita West 1960-1978 published by on Tue, 13/08/2013 - 12:29
Dear Forum
I am trying to find information on a distant family member - Margaret Anita West (1960-1978 Weston), especially relating to the circumstances of her death. I am unable to find any newspaper stories relating to her death - although I may not be looking in the right places!
I would also like to know more about her mother Rosmary Kelleker, and if she had any other children. Kelleker is a very unusual name but I have hit a wall with regards to the above.
Any information or pointers as to where I can look further would be very useful to me.
Do you have her death certificate? That may help with cause and place of death.
She was buried in Weston Cemetery in Plot O 157 on the 14th April 1978 but there is no memorial on the grave.
There might be an obit in a local newspaper - these are not online but can be seen on film in Weston-super-Mare Library. The local paper was only published weekly so as the funeral date is known you may get some assistance from the library - or if not perhaps one of our volunteers might look at the newspapers for you the next time we are running a Help Session.
I can see from FreeBMD that her mother's maiden name was KELLEKER but I can't see a marriage between a WEST and a KELLEKER anywhere - or more children with the surname WEST and mother with the surname KELLEKER or KELLEGHER.

Just to add to Pat's comments, according to the Milton Road Register of Burials, Margaret was living at 5 Langford Road, Weston Super Mare at the time of her death.
This afternoon at the Free Advice Session at the Library one of our members found an article in the Weston Mercury for April 14th 1978. It describes how Margaret Anita WEST died as a result of a fire at 36 Argyle Avenue, Weston-super-Mare. She had been visiting there at the time of the incident. I will send a copy of the newspaper article directly to you.
A big thanks to all for your inputs. It certainly gives me more information than I had, and some very useful avenues for further investigation. I am living abroad and so it is not so easy for me to find these things in a reasonable time frame, so the inputs recieved here are really very gratefully recieved!!
I do not have a copy of the death certificate, but will look to obtain one in the near future.
